I'm really happy that you guys finally got it up on the store. Back in the days, I always felt donations weren't going to be enough for you guys to get what you deserve. But now, I feel you guys will be very well compensated for your work.
As to the price change after 1 month, may I suggest you wait and see the numbers first. There are still many more regional rollouts for the iPhone over the next year. Keep it at $2.99 for a few more months to see how it works out before jumping the price so you can suck in more new users as more regions sart to get in on the action.
I cannot receive unicde like ö and ä and so on which is often used in germany.. sending them is no problem but i cannot receive them,..
But I hear you about growing pains. We've all waited this long, we can wait a couple more days. Just make sure you guys get up and running as quickly as possible, though. These first few days you're not just going to take a beating on your servers, but also with reviews in the app store. If things don't work well right away, you're going to lose faith with some people. Some might turn away from buying if there's a lot of people complaining. Do whatever you need to do -- spend whatever you can to get it up and running quickly because you WILL get your money back (and then some) from the sheer number of people who want this app!
Hope you guys get it worked out :)
Would also be nice for you to provide an option not to connect to your servers to use the service, and just have the connection terminated when the app closes. (I do see the option to have it sign off on close, but being able to connect directly to the various servers would be a great feature to have and would help you alleviate server load.
Hopefully it's just a temporary problem...
Thanks
i connected once but while i was connected i liked it ALOT.
the application is amazing and the makers deserve some serious thanks for making it soo good.
hopefully they can fix alot of the bugs and work out the server problem and get back to us.
no1 is gonna give it to you.
,...............................it is worth well more, at least £5, I just don't feel right buying it so cheap. Raise the price quick before everyone in App Store reviews starts moaning about the developers becoming greedy, seems to be happening a lot, them kind of people really annoy me.
I'm up for paying for upgrades aswell as long as I have MSN on my iPhone.
- Run smoothly.
- Unintuitive interface.
- Cannot connect to my Yahoo! and Google Talk account for most of time (it actually worked once, then next time it failed). I think it's server-side issue.
- Message delay for 2-3 seconds (another server-side issue, I think).

thank you for deleating that comment..
people are soo cheap these days always trying to get stuff for free.
Ffs, I want MC but Back Up is taking the piss, never takes this long, maybe because I havent synced iPhone in ages.
How many times is the Thank you for purchasing mobile chat going to pop up :) ?
Aim and palringo are 'bout to get deleted right about.... NOW!
Is an invisible status going to be an option any time soon?
hopefully it'll go away when everything is up and working perfect
happy to see that the app is out ....just picked it up from itunes just now .....now i just have to wait till my iphone gets in so i can use it.
I find the squabble over pricing bizarre. People readily drop $20 on a pizza, but they agonize and complain about paying a ridiculously low $3 for something permanent and thoroughly useful.
no connectivity for me yet. was looking forward to this program. hopefully i'll get to try it soon.
i just wanted to make sure this is useable through T-mobile TZONES hack?
if not i just wasted 3$ =[
they werent ready so the servers arent working to their best feature.
give it some time dude.
backing me up.
people are mental :]
people just dont understand how much work is being done right now.
let them fix it up so people like you stop b1tching.
is that only me? or is it part of the features?
cheers
LT
Good luck guys, looking forward to seeing this app humming smoothy.
I approve.
our server infrastructure that will prevent who are using cracked versions
from connecting.
3$ goes towards everything they need to keep the servers up and all the time they put into it.
its atleast we could do.
i just hope Tmobile Tzones hack works when everytings working 100% =/
we know what we're talking about
stop complaining.
no1 cares dude.
delete it if you dont like it.
stop starting shyt because ur mad the servers are down.
it'll work eventually so relax man.
I also think that being a small company.. the fact that these guys are finally getting some money out of it is going to ensure that they keep working for us and improving it. Glad to hear you'll be preventing cracked copies from connecting!
But since all I can see is "Cannot connect to MobileChat" this is not what I expected...! As you state here you are having server troubles of some kind -- so it seems you are routing the traffic through your servers...?! Huh...?!
Why would you do that...?! Do I have to sign up for even another account with MobileChat first...?! Why not just connect the user to AIM or MSN or Yahoo or whatever service(s) they choose -- directly, just like other IM apps do...?! Am I misunderstanding the concept here...?!
I'm really a bit confused as well as kinda disappointed so far...but maybe I'm just not getting it...?! :(
Patience everyone.
I hate to say it, but this app is really buggy. It feels like an alpha. Most of the time it seems like it isn't even trying to connect me to the services, and when I delete my accounts to re-add them to get it to update my buddy list, the app crashes continuously and needs to be reinstalled to be usable again.
Here's hoping that queued update shows up soon! Glad you guys finally got it out there. Here's hoping the patches get approved faster
However, the second you close those applications your disconnected. Unless you leave your iPHone on your IM app all the time your effectively out of communication whenever you do anything else on your phone.
The only other app I could think of is Pelringo, but since they make you sign up for their own service before you can actually use it, this is not an option for me...
Also, the way I use IM I actually wouldn't care if I am disconnected when I close the app...I usually chat a while (using Meebo or BeeJive) and then quit, sign off and do other things...
But I do understand, of course, that being connected even after leaving the app has its advantages and is even really important to many users...!
For some people, if it doesn't stay connected all the time, it's of little use. Personally I use my iPhone for email and browsing far too much to be able to dedicate a single app or browser tab (at all times) in order to remain online. We need an app like this that does it in the background.
1. My buddy list never goes away even when im not connected. it shows all my buddies still there in the buddy tab as online away etc... They should appear offline or not at all.
2. Hand an instance that I was getting blank IMs. Had to restart the program.
earlier today. It should be on AppStore by tomorrow.
I would have launched this in the App Store when it was really ready (UI seems a little shaky).
And when it IS really ready 2.99 is too cheap. Don't undervalue yourselves too much. I hope you are considering at least 5-10$ in future.
Also, yes what about proxying passwords? No privacy agreement to sign - I don't use a valuable password with MSN, but still.
That all aside I look forward to connecting to it and getting MSN on my iPhone finally. Nice work.
It's such a quantum leap from any iPhone IM app out there, yet people just don't seem to comprehend the difference between "always on" and "only-on-when-I-have-the-program-open" applications. In order to accomplish this your data goes through their servers, simple.
$3.00 isn't going to break anyone.
not backround running...that would kill the battery way to fast.
anyone else get a crash when trying to open it?
before anything even pops up about "thank you for buying MobileChat3..." i keep getting that and cant even open it.
yo go on aim real fast man
You really MUST make this clear on Appstore. I might not have bought the app tonight if this was clearly disclosed at the time of purchase, opting to wait until the push version came out in order to avoid paying for the application twice. I suspect there's plenty of others in the same boat who are going to be very disgruntled when the features that appear to be promised in future (near) versions are going to incur another purchase price.
Clarification please?
If you can't maintain it are you planning a refund?
It is a bit disturbing that if their servers don't work, the application is worthless, though.
What the fuck?!?!
LISTEN UP! JUST RELAX! AND WAIT IT OUT. THERE SHOULD BE A UPDATE TOMORROW WITH ALL THE BUG FIXES. THE APP THAT WAS SUBMITTED IS AN EARLIER VERSION THE ONE SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TOMORROW.
----
AND FOR EVERYONE ELSE THAT SAYING THE APP IS WORTHLESS, THATS YOUR OPINION.
AGAIN JUST BE PATIENT FOR JUST A FEW MORE DAYS AND EVERYTHING WELL BE SMOOOTH....
Early launch problems aside, I think there's some more work to be done. Signing in and out is extremely clumsy; it seems only logical that signing in and out ought to be handled on the "Accounts" page. The status page should only be for setting away messages and setting one's status to invisible. This brings me to another shortcoming - no option to set one's account as invisible. Also, the option to view buddies in their respective groups seems to be completely missing - this needs rectified. Finally, there seems to be no indicator for those buddies that are not actually "online" but just have a link to their mobile phone - again, this needs fixed.
I know this is getting kind of long, but I think for all the great features of this app (landscape mode, workaround for push notifications, sending pictures, etc.), there are just as many shortcomings. Keep up the good work and you'll have a winner on your hands. At the moment you have a public beta and are charging for it......
That's something which can actually end up costing people money - I'd rather have those people not shown at all then shown without any indication.
I find it ironic that Apple was blamed for everything throughout this process, and now they are being blamed for releasing it and you guys are not prepared for it. Again, please get your operation together.
I wasn't aware that the updates to this in the future will be charged for too. That's something to think about considering how things have been handled thus far. I spent $3 now, which is fine, but I doubt I'll keep dishing out money for updates.
Overall, I liked the old, Jailbroken version of MobileChat much better than this current version. I wish there was an option that allowed me to have a theme like SMS. I wish I could see if my friends were mobile or not on their phones. In many respects, AIM has you all beat, especially when Apple enables PUSH next month. The incentive to buy your app will likely decrease. Right now, you do have Gtalk, and that's the main reason I purchased the app, and because I was a big fan when you all were on the Installer. As others have stated, this is basically a public beta, and I hope we aren't charged for the app again when the issues get ironed out.
My issues, outside of the connection problems, which you guys said is being worked on, is the fact that my buddy list is all over the place. Why aren't the buddies in alphabetical order? As of now, MC 3 is a regression from MC 2 which was a very good chat app. I'd put this version with AIM on the iPhone in terms of usability until you can get hte kinks worked out. Obviously, you'll need to implement some more ideas as right now, the only thing you're offering that is exclusive is PUSH workaround.
I'll leave my final verdict till you get the server issues and such worked out, and if this mysterious version that will come out tomorrow with bug fixes.
It remains to be seen whether users will pay for this app, or use the comparable Palringo for free, which will probably offer PUSH when apple enables it next month.
I bought it though so dont call me a thug.
but their competitor "PALRINGO" has just released an update that includes:
1. Voice Recording
2. the ability to save pictures that the person you are chatting with sends!
These are awesome features that I hope Mobile Chat can one day include.
Also, please hurry on the server side as many of us want to try this potentially great app.
I have faith in you guys!!!!!!!
Is it possible to use it without going through your server. The first problem is that when your server is down it doesn't work and secondly that I don't like that a third party is snooping my chat data.
If you guys feel so poorly about wasting 3 dollars don't give it to the bum that walks around the trains (NYC residents know what i am talking about). Just relax 3 dollars is small and don't complain yet. give it some time ;) then we can complain haha.
GREAT JOB DEVELOPERS! THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK!! :)
Purchased it this morning and am left a little.... underwhelmed to put it mildly.
Now, please do not misunderstand me, for a two-man job, you have done a great job indeed. I am not at all in doubt that this app will sell hugely, if it has not already done so.
This leads me to the following points.
I am aware of the fact that you are two people working on this. This just enforces the point that you should have prepared way more than you have done. Basically, your so-called "beta test phase" has obviously not been even remotely close to being fulfilling. An app of this magnitude, and with this coverage, should easily sell in the 100's of thousands. Being "overwhelmed" by the amounts of purchases upon release, should simply not happen.
1. Beta testing.
I would at least have expected a beta test with at least 1000 users. To my understanding, no from what I guess, this has not happened. By looking through the site, reading the posts, it seems that but a handful were beta-testers. Not good enough. An in-depth beta test would have sorted out many many more problems, and would have given you a better knowledge of what to expect from the servers come release.
2. Servers.
Not being able to have servers up and running upon release, goes to show that the "footwork" has simply not been done. A simple survey on a number of sites would have shown a clear signal as to how many you could expect would purchase this app upon release, hence giving you options of having the number of servers ready and set up. Not having this ready, is in my book not good enough for a paid app.
3. The future.
Now, I have been slightly harsh on you guys. I still have to say though, that you have done and are doing an awesome job. I have purchased this app myself, and have huge expectations towards it. I do, however, fear for you. If you do not get things up and running ASAP, then you will have problems. If you do not fix bugs and queries ASAP (I noticed something about MSN buddies not appearing with contact names for example, "foreign characters" are another huge concern you need to get fixed.) then you will have problems.
Especially since apps like Beejive have already stated that they will be releasing in September. This one app, Beejive, can and will be a huge threat in terms of "market shares". And with a quite large, more experienced crew behind it, you may have your work cut out for you.
Had this been a free app, then I would not complain over a single thing. Hell, don't even consider my points complaints, consider them advice instead :)
And to end this off, keep up the good work!
Didn't know until today that Beejive would be offering a native app. I'd say what MobileChat is to the jailbreak community Beejive is to the non-jailbreak community... They were definitely the premiere IM webapp... and pretty much one of the top 3 reasons I kept my 1st gen iPhone after launch.
T- 5 Minutes!!!! (until re-launch?)
