twenty08 blog: We're LIVE!

  • Trevor · 1 year ago
Well, as long as it only lasts a very short period of time I think you guys will be fine. The "small company" excuse only lasts so long. The amount of demand for the app should have been readily apparent since no other decent IM chats exist for the iPhone yet.
  • Shaun · 1 year ago
We're as prepared as was possible, however there was no way for us to simulate the demand of App Store. We expect there to be about 48 to 72 hours while we get everything smoothed out and things are running hiccup free.
  • Trevor · 1 year ago
I will say though, that when it works, it works well. Kudos.
  • Dude · 1 year ago
Hopefully you wont need new racks just yet. Gotta wait for your first monthly check from Apple to come in. But when you get that, I'm sure you'll be able to bring up new servers in a flash.

I'm really happy that you guys finally got it up on the store. Back in the days, I always felt donations weren't going to be enough for you guys to get what you deserve. But now, I feel you guys will be very well compensated for your work.

As to the price change after 1 month, may I suggest you wait and see the numbers first. There are still many more regional rollouts for the iPhone over the next year. Keep it at $2.99 for a few more months to see how it works out before jumping the price so you can suck in more new users as more regions sart to get in on the action.
  • Shaun · 1 year ago
While we're small, financing isn't too big of an issue. We should be able to keep up with the server demand from a financial standpoint without much issues. The strain will be getting the servers to run as optimized as possible while taking the initial beating this is bringing.
  • iname · 1 year ago
    JUST DOWNLOADED WOO!!!!! (US)
  • André · 1 year ago
I found a bug which might be quite serious as it is a chat client:

I cannot receive unicde like ö and ä and so on which is often used in germany.. sending them is no problem but i cannot receive them,..
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
Is there a proper place to submit bug reports?
  • Shaun · 1 year ago
Not at the moment we should have a ticket system in place within the next hour or so. A lot of the bugs you guys might be experiencing have already been fixed. We submitted a new build to Apple earlier today and are waiting for them to put the new one live.
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
where should we report new bugs to if we were to find them?
  • André · 1 year ago
next well... not bug but improvement request: after sending a message it does not come back to the alphabet but stays in the symbolic keyboard. if you have a question mark at the end you always need to get back to the alphabet.
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
    HOLY SHITTTTTTTTTTT YES! lol
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
my life has never felt so complete lol
  • Ben · 1 year ago
    Yay! Finally!!
  • AntInNyc · 1 year ago
And... it's not working for me yet. ;-P

But I hear you about growing pains. We've all waited this long, we can wait a couple more days. Just make sure you guys get up and running as quickly as possible, though. These first few days you're not just going to take a beating on your servers, but also with reviews in the app store. If things don't work well right away, you're going to lose faith with some people. Some might turn away from buying if there's a lot of people complaining. Do whatever you need to do -- spend whatever you can to get it up and running quickly because you WILL get your money back (and then some) from the sheer number of people who want this app!
  • Andrmgic · 1 year ago
Seems to crash alot, IM sending is also delayed.

Hope you guys get it worked out :)

Would also be nice for you to provide an option not to connect to your servers to use the service, and just have the connection terminated when the app closes. (I do see the option to have it sign off on close, but being able to connect directly to the various servers would be a great feature to have and would help you alleviate server load.
  • Shaun · 1 year ago
You can tell it to sign off on close the Settings app and going to "Chat"
  • monkeyrun · 1 year ago
YES !!! just bought it :)
  • monkeyrun · 1 year ago
Hmm.. I keep getting Cannot Connect To MobileChat.

Hopefully it's just a temporary problem...
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
not letting me on at all =[
  • 4830Deuce · 1 year ago
I love you guys! Good Luck with the server troubles!
  • CorranQ · 1 year ago
I have to ask... why didn't you guys go down the ad-supported route so you could make MobileChat free like Palringo??
  • André · 1 year ago
i like it better this way.. pay once and have no commercials at all
  • Dude · 1 year ago
Because it detracts from the user experience for an App like this. I mulled it over for my own work along with a few other devs, but decided I didn't want adds to intrude on my user. And truth be told, Palring just blows. I went back to BeeJive and Mobee while I waited for MCC3.
  • CorranQ · 1 year ago
I guess that's a valid point.. how good is the SMS system on it though? That's really the only thing that'd get me to go ahead and buy it...
  • Dude · 1 year ago
The SMS worked nice and fast, near instant I'd say. As long as when you leave the app to do other things and remain "Available" They'll come thru fast. At least it did before the influx on their servers. I suspect things will be back to normal as soon as they provision more servers to handle the load
  • CorranQ · 1 year ago
SOLD! I have downloaded MobileChat and am installing it on both my iPhone and iPod Touch :-) Thanks Dude... however... Dudish that may sound... lol
  • fgggg · 1 year ago
I prefer as it is now... ad's suck.. already downloaded :)
  • DC · 1 year ago
    not working. code is crap.
  • Frrrrrrunkis · 1 year ago
HELL no, I'd rather pay $5 than put up with Ads telling me I could have a bigger dong in 3 seconds
  • Saverio · 1 year ago
Ad Revenue is weak for small companies like us. We don't have a company to go out and sell ad space, and as people listed, it takes away from the flow of the application. One of the most important things on the iPhone is the developers ability to maximize all of the space, it would kill some of your screen space. No one wants that!
  • CorranQ · 1 year ago
Hmmm, alrighty - thanks for the prompt reply :-)
  • Ben · 1 year ago
Good so far, but needs support for contact sorting (including groups). And a status icon for mobile contacts is needed. Also something I've noticed is that MobileChat will tell you "Screen name is not connected", but it should give you an option on that alert to reconnect.
  • Kyle · 1 year ago
Just saw Mobile Chat in the App Store and this is the first I've ever heard of it. Thought I would stop by and check things out before deciding if I want to purchase the app or not. It looks very promising.
  • Tom · 1 year ago
Hi, can you advise if your app supports offline chatting with windows live messenger, same way messenger itself does.
    Thanks
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
it crashes in the begining before it even opens more then anything.
i connected once but while i was connected i liked it ALOT.

the application is amazing and the makers deserve some serious thanks for making it soo good.

hopefully they can fix alot of the bugs and work out the server problem and get back to us.
  • labaom · 1 year ago
its out.. now someone crack it
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    just go buy it?
no1 is gonna give it to you.
  • A.T · 1 year ago
This app is not worth £1.79...........................
,...............................it is worth well more, at least £5, I just don't feel right buying it so cheap. Raise the price quick before everyone in App Store reviews starts moaning about the developers becoming greedy, seems to be happening a lot, them kind of people really annoy me.

I'm up for paying for upgrades aswell as long as I have MSN on my iPhone.
  • Hieu Hoang · 1 year ago
Just bought it and here's my first glimpse:

    - Run smoothly.
    - Unintuitive interface.
    - Cannot connect to my Yahoo! and Google Talk account for most of time (it actually worked once, then next time it failed). I think it's server-side issue.
    - Message delay for 2-3 seconds (another server-side issue, I think).
  • Hieu Hoang · 1 year ago
now I'm getting "can't connect to MobileChat popup"..... -__-
  • Stevin3 · 1 year ago
Congrats Shaun and Saverio. I'm installing now and can't wait to try it out... Can't wait to compare/contrast it to the installer.app version. I'd be surprised if you don't have about ~1,000,000 Downloads this first week!
  • labaom · 1 year ago
can someone email me the ipa of mc3.. i wanna crack it

    EMAIL: kennyweiss@comcast.net
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    no.

thank you for deleating that comment..
people are soo cheap these days always trying to get stuff for free.
  • A.T · 1 year ago
What was th comment removed about or said??

Ffs, I want MC but Back Up is taking the piss, never takes this long, maybe because I havent synced iPhone in ages.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    guy tryna crack it..
  • Stevin3 · 1 year ago
agreed. if there is any app out there that people should be very willing to pay for its this one.

How many times is the Thank you for purchasing mobile chat going to pop up :) ?

Aim and palringo are 'bout to get deleted right about.... NOW!

Is an invisible status going to be an option any time soon?
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
i think it'll be their for the next few days.
hopefully it'll go away when everything is up and working perfect
  • gringle · 1 year ago
nice app, but when can we expect to see some irc support? just about every other chat medium is available
  • champ22 · 1 year ago
    @ Shaun & Servio
happy to see that the app is out ....just picked it up from itunes just now .....now i just have to wait till my iphone gets in so i can use it.
  • Zell · 1 year ago
Well done! I got my first iPhone just the other day and my only real negative surprise has been the lack of sane IM. And here you are! Good luck with massive scaling; it's a non-trivial undertaking.

I find the squabble over pricing bizarre. People readily drop $20 on a pizza, but they agonize and complain about paying a ridiculously low $3 for something permanent and thoroughly useful.
  • jonny · 1 year ago
    purchased it around 10mins ago.
no connectivity for me yet. was looking forward to this program. hopefully i'll get to try it soon.
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
Getting crashes here.... Didnt really get to use it much and I couldnt click on my account to log back in.. Nothing happened. Going to reinstall it.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
yeah ive been getting mostly crashes too
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
i can only sign in through WIFI.
i just wanted to make sure this is useable through T-mobile TZONES hack?
    if not i just wasted 3$ =[
  • Scott Youse · 1 year ago
Hmmmm Can't connect..... crash.......can't connect....etc. etc etc. I just wasted my money. How do I get my money back??
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
do you understand how many people all over just bought that program?
they werent ready so the servers arent working to their best feature.
    give it some time dude.
  • Chris · 1 year ago
i guess you completely ignored the message that pops up every time you launch the app, that says please be patient for the next 48-72 hours as things are worked out and more servers are added?
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    hahaaha thanks chris
    backing me up.

    people are mental :]
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
then again...thanks for deleteing the comment.
people just dont understand how much work is being done right now.
  • machz · 1 year ago
If you didn't post gay ass comments calling people mental you wouldn't need to thank anyone for deleting comments, gangstaa. What a clown...wanna be a gangstaa boyeeee freakin tard!
  • machz · 1 year ago
Fukin thing doesn't work sh**neck, and they charge money for something not working at the moment. Doesn't sound mental, more like an expectation not being met by the developer.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
or people being a$$holes and rushing $h1t.

let them fix it up so people like you stop b1tching.
  • LT · 1 year ago
I cant see my offline contacts on yahoo messenger?
is that only me? or is it part of the features?
    cheers
    LT
  • Oshawapilot · 1 year ago
I've been waiting for this sort of IM app for a year - you have my $3 now, server issues or not - hopefully people are as patient as myself with the server issues, though, but I understand it's impossible to scale based on unknown demand.

Good luck guys, looking forward to seeing this app humming smoothy.
  • Tallis · 1 year ago
    No MSN contact names? :/
  • Shady P. · 1 year ago
hopfefully you will get your servers up and running soon. i keep getting cannot connect to mobile chat
  • kwjohns · 1 year ago
I like the MOTD type feature that pops up when you open the app but this should be something that only pops up once everytime the message updates, IMO, so that it isn't popping up everytime you open the program.
  • Stevin3 · 1 year ago
I like how neither shaun nor saverio have commented in a while... I'm going to take that as ... "we're working really hard to manage the chaos that is an iTunes app store launch and get this thing running"

    I approve.
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
Ive gotten on periodically and its fantastic... cant wait for the servers to be up :) Its REALLY effing good!
  • stealth · 1 year ago
I am a little worried about purchasing this app now, as it will be cracked very soon and therefore many many people will be using it and your servers will not be able to handle it.
  • twenty08 · 1 year ago
I'm sure it will be cracked; however, we will be implementing checks into
our server infrastructure that will prevent who are using cracked versions
    from connecting.
  • stealth · 1 year ago
Oh Great! Well I am very happy this has finally been released as I used it on 1.1.4, now where is Skype already!
  • stealth · 1 year ago
I just bought it, too bad I can't connect to anything :(
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
People that crack programs are such cheap bastards.. its 3 effing dollars!!! Thats the price of 1 drink at a bar!!!
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    thats a good idea.
3$ goes towards everything they need to keep the servers up and all the time they put into it.
    its atleast we could do.

i just hope Tmobile Tzones hack works when everytings working 100% =/
  • mmccaskill · 1 year ago
Agreed. I bet the complaining about $3 are the ones who go to StarBucks everyday and order a $5 coffee drink.
  • machz · 1 year ago
I bet you don't know what the fuk you are talking about
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    GTFO!
we know what we're talking about

    stop complaining.
    no1 cares dude.
delete it if you dont like it.
  • machz · 1 year ago
Wasn't talking to you gangsta, so shut the fuk up. I was commenting to the fukstick that bets people complaining drink $5 SBucks coffee.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    idc
stop starting shyt because ur mad the servers are down.

it'll work eventually so relax man.
  • Saverio · 1 year ago
    Relax.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
sorry man..people just dont understand the problem.
  • Oshawapilot · 1 year ago
Dude, your making yourself look childish. Grow up.
  • stealth · 1 year ago
I am a little surprised you guys were not ready for the launch. This might have an impact on sales since the program doesn't even work
  • Stevin3 · 1 year ago
I'd just like to know what bar you go to!!!! Its the price of a sip of a drink at the bar in any reasonably sized city.

I also think that being a small company.. the fact that these guys are finally getting some money out of it is going to ensure that they keep working for us and improving it. Glad to hear you'll be preventing cracked copies from connecting!
  • MILE · 1 year ago
Hmmh, I guess I got ths wrong when I bought the app...!? I actually thought this would be a real multi-messenger for the iPhone platform...!? Kind of like Adium touch or so... ;)

But since all I can see is "Cannot connect to MobileChat" this is not what I expected...! As you state here you are having server troubles of some kind -- so it seems you are routing the traffic through your servers...?! Huh...?!

Why would you do that...?! Do I have to sign up for even another account with MobileChat first...?! Why not just connect the user to AIM or MSN or Yahoo or whatever service(s) they choose -- directly, just like other IM apps do...?! Am I misunderstanding the concept here...?!

I'm really a bit confused as well as kinda disappointed so far...but maybe I'm just not getting it...?! :(
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
it uses their server so you dont get disconnected when you close the app.
  • Oshawapilot · 1 year ago
Which is the big feature behind this app...and the reason why so many people are all over it like white on rice...which is why the servers are crashing in a ball of flames.

    Patience everyone.
  • MILE · 1 year ago
Well, actually it would be kind of nice if I could choose whether I want to go through their servers or connect to an IM service directly...!? But I guess that's just me... ;)
  • Andrmgic · 1 year ago
I agree. They should add this as a feature. I, among other users, would probably choose this method of connection.. and it would be less of a burden on their servers.

I hate to say it, but this app is really buggy. It feels like an alpha. Most of the time it seems like it isn't even trying to connect me to the services, and when I delete my accounts to re-add them to get it to update my buddy list, the app crashes continuously and needs to be reinstalled to be usable again.

Here's hoping that queued update shows up soon! Glad you guys finally got it out there. Here's hoping the patches get approved faster
  • Oshawapilot · 1 year ago
There are free applications that will do that - look around on the Appstore.

However, the second you close those applications your disconnected. Unless you leave your iPHone on your IM app all the time your effectively out of communication whenever you do anything else on your phone.
  • MILE · 1 year ago
Actually there is only one app of that kind, the AIM messenger that has been there from the start...! But that only connects you to AIM/iChat and ICQ -- so it's not really a multi-messenger...

The only other app I could think of is Pelringo, but since they make you sign up for their own service before you can actually use it, this is not an option for me...

Also, the way I use IM I actually wouldn't care if I am disconnected when I close the app...I usually chat a while (using Meebo or BeeJive) and then quit, sign off and do other things...

But I do understand, of course, that being connected even after leaving the app has its advantages and is even really important to many users...!
  • Oshawapilot · 1 year ago
I was a huge Hiptop/Sidekick fan (of 4+ years) before I joined the iPhone community and one thing it had was a stable always-on AIM client. Everyone knew they could IM me anytime I'd be get the message, and that seemingly simple feature is something I've missed beyond belief on my iPhone.

For some people, if it doesn't stay connected all the time, it's of little use. Personally I use my iPhone for email and browsing far too much to be able to dedicate a single app or browser tab (at all times) in order to remain online. We need an app like this that does it in the background.
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
Seriously, give it a bit for them to get the traffic under control with servers. This is going to be a killer App... Noticed a few bugs though:

    1. My buddy list never goes away even when im not connected. it shows all my buddies still there in the buddy tab as online away etc... They should appear offline or not at all.

    2. Hand an instance that I was getting blank IMs. Had to restart the program.
  • twenty08 · 1 year ago
Lots of these bugs are fixed in a newer version we submitted to Apple
earlier today. It should be on AppStore by tomorrow.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
does Tzones hack work with it?
  • Stevin3 · 1 year ago
Thats the 3rd time you've asked about it. I understand you're concerned, but don't keep reposting the same question.
  • kwjohns · 1 year ago
Updates only take one day? That's refreshing to hear!
  • André · 1 year ago
i heared they take up to 3 weeks.. like normal apps..
  • Jay P · 1 year ago
Maybe this has been answered somewhere else, but if you're proxying our connections, that means you get to know our service passwords. Or am I wrong?
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
Awesome :D I got to use it a bit before getting kicked off, and its fantastic. Keep up the good work!!!
  • mmmiles · 1 year ago
    Hmmm 2 comments.

I would have launched this in the App Store when it was really ready (UI seems a little shaky).

And when it IS really ready 2.99 is too cheap. Don't undervalue yourselves too much. I hope you are considering at least 5-10$ in future.

Also, yes what about proxying passwords? No privacy agreement to sign - I don't use a valuable password with MSN, but still.

That all aside I look forward to connecting to it and getting MSN on my iPhone finally. Nice work.
  • Bob Watson · 1 year ago
That's my biggest issue at the moment -- you guys are storing my password and messages for Jabber, MSN, etc; I'd really like a way of turning that off and connecting directly for certain accounts (I know that'd lose me some functionality).
  • Neil · 1 year ago
What I don't understand is why aren't connections done directly with the original protocol, ala Adium? The original services are designed to handle tons of traffic. Designing the application around your own servers seems... strange. I'd love to hear a compelling reason why you went this route.
  • kwjohns · 1 year ago
How many times does this have to be answered? Their app keeps you logged in whether you are in the app or not. It doesn't disconnect you unless you tell it to disconnect you. This requires that they use their servers.
  • Oshawapilot · 1 year ago
Clearly people are just not getting the basics beyond what this program does.

It's such a quantum leap from any iPhone IM app out there, yet people just don't seem to comprehend the difference between "always on" and "only-on-when-I-have-the-program-open" applications. In order to accomplish this your data goes through their servers, simple.
  • Poorer · 1 year ago
I just bought the IM app and it just keeps telling me to wait 48-72h since you're a small company. One way to do this could have been to initially launch with a higher price and thus fewer users and gradually reduce the cost as you would have grown. Right now, I as a poor grad student think I have wasted 3 dollars. I hate TUAW for recommending this.
  • Oshawapilot · 1 year ago
Read the thread, dude. Your $3.00 will render a great app eventually. Have patience, the load was clearly unexpected.

$3.00 isn't going to break anyone.
  • Poorer · 1 year ago
I hate to say this but I agree with you. As long as it becomes okay soon.
  • jumajunkie · 1 year ago
some are you are stupid seriously.... look they are using their server so if u close the app.... when u reopen it it will send you all the ims that u didnt get when u had it closed... just like a sidekick...... if it done on the normal servers.. that is not supported... so you will lose all your messages sent while you were still logged in and had the app closed... do you really want that.... they are a trustworthy app.. if you dont like it dont buy it simple as that. they are not gonna steal your password.
  • machz · 1 year ago
I think your a smack junkie there jumajunkie calling people stupid, you can't even fuking talk right.. Hmm shall we play this back "some are you are stupid seriously" Who is stupid????
  • jumajunkie · 1 year ago
i wasnt talking to u in general.. im trying to get the point out
  • bigjoe · 1 year ago
    Does not mwork
  • jee · 1 year ago
Horizontal typing enabled:) u guys are the bomb. Increase the price!
  • Poorer · 1 year ago
And it should be "please BEAR with use" in both this post and the notification in the app.
  • Bob Watson · 1 year ago
Can we have an option to capitalise the first letter we type by default?
  • adam · 1 year ago
Will you guys release a jailbroken version on cydia/installer that allows background operation? Pretty useless without it. Whats the point can use meebo or beejive and it's the same thing. Background operation is what makes this app.
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
Umm it DOES keep you connected when you close the program, and notifies you that you got a message when you enable SMS or Email (AIM and Mac only I think).
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
goes through their server before it goes to the aim/mac server.
not backround running...that would kill the battery way to fast.

anyone else get a crash when trying to open it?
before anything even pops up about "thank you for buying MobileChat3..." i keep getting that and cant even open it.
  • Djmx · 1 year ago
it keeps u connected on the server but on the fone it d/c u.. when u open the app u reconnect and all ur msgs that was sent to u u can see it..!
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
so if the app isnt open but im online and i get a call il get disconnected?
  • Djmx · 1 year ago
No, u get d/c from the phone but not the server.. which means it still shows u on.. and when u get back all ur convos well be shown, if anyone msged u.. get it?
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    ohh iight perfect.
yo go on aim real fast man
  • mikemaserati · 1 year ago
it was about time. Damn apple took for ever i just downloaded it. I had 3g Iphone for a month and want 2g jailbroken back just for chat app ! GREAT JOB guys hope the app takes off. I'm telling all my friends about cheers from CANADA!
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
Hopefully some added bandwidth is up tomorrow :) Really need this app at work!
  • stealth · 1 year ago
I want to connect, Let me connect!!!
  • Bryan Zachwieja · 1 year ago
hate to bother you but would you guys be able to put gadu-gadu in your future updates possible :)?
  • Xander · 1 year ago
When you guys get more servers will sending pictures not freeze the app and sometimes my phone? If your app freezes there should be some way to not have to wait ten minutes to log in again. Mine crashed a few times, then told me I had to wait ten minutes to log in. =(
  • Oshawapilot · 1 year ago
Someone over at TUAW just brought up the fact that your website states that major upgrades (of which push is one?) will incur additional cost for the upgrade.

You really MUST make this clear on Appstore. I might not have bought the app tonight if this was clearly disclosed at the time of purchase, opting to wait until the push version came out in order to avoid paying for the application twice. I suspect there's plenty of others in the same boat who are going to be very disgruntled when the features that appear to be promised in future (near) versions are going to incur another purchase price.

    Clarification please?
  • Djmx · 1 year ago
I dont understand ur concern??? About the App if you the Right side info on the app in App Store tells you all the Info on the Push. What is your question?
  • Stevin3 · 1 year ago
I think this was discussed a while back. They're going to update us to the push version without charging us again. (i think)... oh well see you guys at 8am.. gluck working on your servers gentlemen
  • luke · 1 year ago
In a previous blog post they said push notification update would be free to early adopteds so no worries man
  • Bob · 1 year ago
A message just popup on my MC screen saying that all servers have been dissabled for the upgrade and they hope to have them back online by 8AM. Not complaining just wanted to know if anybody else got this message?

I am curious about your business model. How will you guys maintain these servers and high bandwidth costs form the high user load on a one time fee of $3 a user?

If you can't maintain it are you planning a refund?
  • Trevor · 1 year ago
They're going to charge for future updates (not the push update coming in early September, the ones after that). Plenty more features available to add.

It is a bit disturbing that if their servers don't work, the application is worthless, though.
  • joe · 1 year ago
I bought the app and it doesnt even work. It crashes as soon as i open it.
    What the fuck?!?!
  • Djmx · 1 year ago
    @ EVERYONE -

LISTEN UP! JUST RELAX! AND WAIT IT OUT. THERE SHOULD BE A UPDATE TOMORROW WITH ALL THE BUG FIXES. THE APP THAT WAS SUBMITTED IS AN EARLIER VERSION THE ONE SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TOMORROW.

    ----
AND FOR EVERYONE ELSE THAT SAYING THE APP IS WORTHLESS, THATS YOUR OPINION.

AGAIN JUST BE PATIENT FOR JUST A FEW MORE DAYS AND EVERYTHING WELL BE SMOOOTH....
  • Trevor · 1 year ago
Dude, you're not a MobileChat developer so nobody cares what you think. I'm the only one who used the term "worthless" and I was referring to the fact that when the servers are down the app is UNUSABLE which makes it completely worthless. Reading is obviously not your strong point, nor is making coherent sentences. Hopefully you're not the voice of MobileChat, or else you'll end up driving even more people away with inane rambling and insults.

After following this app for awhile and watching the feature videos and what not, I must admit I'm fairly underwhelmed at the moment. Mainly, I find it a bit disturbing that you put your app up for sale before you were apparently ready to handle the user demand. I'm reminded of MobileMe's pathetic launch and the user backlash that resulted; also see how Apple gave extra free months to those affected users, something to keep in mind when you charge for future updated versions. This brings me to my second point: you need to make it clear on the App Store page that updates will not be free. This is a bit of a slimy business tactic that will most definitely put off many users - especially those that bought the app today when it was completely nonfunctional.

Early launch problems aside, I think there's some more work to be done. Signing in and out is extremely clumsy; it seems only logical that signing in and out ought to be handled on the "Accounts" page. The status page should only be for setting away messages and setting one's status to invisible. This brings me to another shortcoming - no option to set one's account as invisible. Also, the option to view buddies in their respective groups seems to be completely missing - this needs rectified. Finally, there seems to be no indicator for those buddies that are not actually "online" but just have a link to their mobile phone - again, this needs fixed.

I know this is getting kind of long, but I think for all the great features of this app (landscape mode, workaround for push notifications, sending pictures, etc.), there are just as many shortcomings. Keep up the good work and you'll have a winner on your hands. At the moment you have a public beta and are charging for it......
  • Bob Watson · 1 year ago
"there seems to be no indicator for those buddies that are not actually "online" but just have a link to their mobile phone"

That's something which can actually end up costing people money - I'd rather have those people not shown at all then shown without any indication.
  • Daniel · 1 year ago
That's ridiculous, haha, in my respectful opinion! This is supposed to be a fully functional IM app....I expect it to do everything that Adium does on my mac. That means groups, contact sorting within groups, mobile buddies, etc. You can't simply "not show" mobile buddies because it may cost them money...it was their choice to link their mobile number to their screen name!
  • Bob Watson · 1 year ago
Well, an option to not show would be nice then; if it did do everything Adium did it would be able to indicate mobile contacts anyway.

    A few things:

I find it ironic that Apple was blamed for everything throughout this process, and now they are being blamed for releasing it and you guys are not prepared for it. Again, please get your operation together.

I wasn't aware that the updates to this in the future will be charged for too. That's something to think about considering how things have been handled thus far. I spent $3 now, which is fine, but I doubt I'll keep dishing out money for updates.

Overall, I liked the old, Jailbroken version of MobileChat much better than this current version. I wish there was an option that allowed me to have a theme like SMS. I wish I could see if my friends were mobile or not on their phones. In many respects, AIM has you all beat, especially when Apple enables PUSH next month. The incentive to buy your app will likely decrease. Right now, you do have Gtalk, and that's the main reason I purchased the app, and because I was a big fan when you all were on the Installer. As others have stated, this is basically a public beta, and I hope we aren't charged for the app again when the issues get ironed out.

My issues, outside of the connection problems, which you guys said is being worked on, is the fact that my buddy list is all over the place. Why aren't the buddies in alphabetical order? As of now, MC 3 is a regression from MC 2 which was a very good chat app. I'd put this version with AIM on the iPhone in terms of usability until you can get hte kinks worked out. Obviously, you'll need to implement some more ideas as right now, the only thing you're offering that is exclusive is PUSH workaround.

I'll leave my final verdict till you get the server issues and such worked out, and if this mysterious version that will come out tomorrow with bug fixes.

It remains to be seen whether users will pay for this app, or use the comparable Palringo for free, which will probably offer PUSH when apple enables it next month.

I can't wait for Adium for the iPhone.
  • Daniel · 1 year ago
Just so you don't get your hopes up.... http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/AdiumForiPhone. Don't expect Adium for the iPhone anytime soon (or ever).
  • Skylor Matthew Werden · 1 year ago
Actually, the 2 concerns stated were before the Wordpress.app. The wordpress.app shows you that Apple is not enforcing the ToS.
  • Daniel · 1 year ago
Really? Damn you, now you have my hopes up that Adium for the iPhone will come out someday....
  • Skylor Matthew Werden · 1 year ago
I can see it branded as Adium2go or AdiumLite. It would be a great idea for them to do.
  • Trevor · 1 year ago
It's one of those things that will most likely never happen. The Adium developers have said that it could "take years" for Apple to take action against Wordpress. That, to me, makes it sound like we'll be waiting along time before they even consider getting an application together.
  • GGG · 1 year ago
soo as i was reading the other posts will the next update be free or do we have to pay????
  • Trevor · 1 year ago
We were told that the only updates to cost money will be the ones adding new features. Bug fixes should not be costing money; if they do, then a lot of people are going to be asking for refunds (myself included). I don't want to have to pay more just to get a functional application.
  • Daniel · 1 year ago
Free. The developers will charge when they include new features; however, when Apple's push notification system goes live, the resultant update of MobileChat will be free. It will be the update after this one (probably sometime late in September / October...though this is just my estimate) that will supposedly cost money (no idea how much though).
  • Djmx · 1 year ago
Ah, Yes TREVOR knows everything GUYS! He knows it ALL..!
  • Shady P. · 1 year ago
in this post i read that twenty08 will prevent cracked users from using mobile chat. well i will tell you that it would not work well at all and it would make many legit users mad. Besides you cant possibly do that becuase even apple couldnt pinpoint a jailbroken ipod and pull the lever of death. (the lever does exist)
I bought it though so dont call me a thug.
  • Mobile Chatter · 1 year ago
Not to burst anyone's Mobile Chat bubble,
but their competitor "PALRINGO" has just released an update that includes:
    1. Voice Recording
    2. the ability to save pictures that the person you are chatting with sends!

These are awesome features that I hope Mobile Chat can one day include.

Also, please hurry on the server side as many of us want to try this potentially great app.
I have faith in you guys!!!!!!!

Your server is down !!! What is the point of selling an application if we cannot use it. I bought it in Europe and your server is down until 8am -- WHICH MEANS MOST OF THE DAY IN EUROPE !
  • iamahacker · 1 year ago
    shut up...you're an idiot
  • Peke · 1 year ago
Ok, so it should be running sometime in the evening here in Europe aswell. It's a bit sad if there's a problem receiving ä and ö. Was this not noticed by any beta testers or where there any from around northern Europe at all? Not too worried though, I'd bet this will be fixed pretty soon. Another thing is to kick Apple to offer scaninavian keyboard to the iPhone. But yeah, hopefully when the servers get back on running my next post will be in this blog and not in the bugreport!
  • rolsson · 1 year ago
I bought it from the Swedish App Store and it looks promising.
Is it possible to use it without going through your server. The first problem is that when your server is down it doesn't work and secondly that I don't like that a third party is snooping my chat data.
  • Mark · 1 year ago
I feel really bad for the developers. I bought this program and i have complete faith in them. They are not little kids- they have been developing chat apps for us since before the app store. Give them some credit. I bet you the developers don't even have a chance to sleep while all the people here who complain are sleeping.

If you guys feel so poorly about wasting 3 dollars don't give it to the bum that walks around the trains (NYC residents know what i am talking about). Just relax 3 dollars is small and don't complain yet. give it some time ;) then we can complain haha.

GREAT JOB DEVELOPERS! THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK!! :)
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
Glad to see this app finally hit the store.

Purchased it this morning and am left a little.... underwhelmed to put it mildly.

Now, please do not misunderstand me, for a two-man job, you have done a great job indeed. I am not at all in doubt that this app will sell hugely, if it has not already done so.

This leads me to the following points.

I am aware of the fact that you are two people working on this. This just enforces the point that you should have prepared way more than you have done. Basically, your so-called "beta test phase" has obviously not been even remotely close to being fulfilling. An app of this magnitude, and with this coverage, should easily sell in the 100's of thousands. Being "overwhelmed" by the amounts of purchases upon release, should simply not happen.

    1. Beta testing.
I would at least have expected a beta test with at least 1000 users. To my understanding, no from what I guess, this has not happened. By looking through the site, reading the posts, it seems that but a handful were beta-testers. Not good enough. An in-depth beta test would have sorted out many many more problems, and would have given you a better knowledge of what to expect from the servers come release.

    2. Servers.
Not being able to have servers up and running upon release, goes to show that the "footwork" has simply not been done. A simple survey on a number of sites would have shown a clear signal as to how many you could expect would purchase this app upon release, hence giving you options of having the number of servers ready and set up. Not having this ready, is in my book not good enough for a paid app.

    3. The future.
Now, I have been slightly harsh on you guys. I still have to say though, that you have done and are doing an awesome job. I have purchased this app myself, and have huge expectations towards it. I do, however, fear for you. If you do not get things up and running ASAP, then you will have problems. If you do not fix bugs and queries ASAP (I noticed something about MSN buddies not appearing with contact names for example, "foreign characters" are another huge concern you need to get fixed.) then you will have problems.

Especially since apps like Beejive have already stated that they will be releasing in September. This one app, Beejive, can and will be a huge threat in terms of "market shares". And with a quite large, more experienced crew behind it, you may have your work cut out for you.

Had this been a free app, then I would not complain over a single thing. Hell, don't even consider my points complaints, consider them advice instead :)

And to end this off, keep up the good work!
  • Kyle · 1 year ago
The remote possibility that I may have to pay for future patches has turned me off and will probably wait until I see if any of the other free chat apps get push notifications when that feature comes out before I purchase MobileChat.
  • Stevin3 · 1 year ago
Thats your choice buddy. Other apps will definitely also have push notifications. If saving 3 dollars today is worth waiting another month to you then you're all set.

Didn't know until today that Beejive would be offering a native app. I'd say what MobileChat is to the jailbreak community Beejive is to the non-jailbreak community... They were definitely the premiere IM webapp... and pretty much one of the top 3 reasons I kept my 1st gen iPhone after launch.

    T- 5 Minutes!!!! (until re-launch?)
