No compensations needed for me :) Just take your time and make it work :)

Compensate us with free upgrades for life.
Maybe, then, we will be fully happy with this product.
  • Kirk · 1 year ago
Free upgrades for life? Are you really serious and are you really that greedy?

Why don't YOU try to do what these guys are doing and see how "easy" it all is. Maybe after having the experience, you won't be such a dweeb and ask for free upgrades for life. Dude: You paid $2.99. Get a grip and a life.
  • Steven Livingston · 1 year ago
Shut up Kirk, he can be upset it he wants for buying an app that doesn't work. Who cares how difficult it is to make an app, if it doesn't work don't sell it.
  • doug · 1 year ago
I think free updates for life is fair. Maybe for at least 2 years. I haven't had to pay for an update so far on my iPhone.
  • Jason Stiles · 1 year ago
So what they kill you after 2 years? No thanks... I'll just pay another 3 bucks thank you very much.
  • Kirk · 1 year ago
Bite me, Stevie boy! Get a life. Move out of your parents basement.
  • Steven Livingston · 1 year ago
It's actually my grandmother's basement and I can't move out because I spent my last 3 bux on an app that doesn't work. :)
  • tomhut · 1 year ago
Thanks for keeping us updated and doing all you can to get it up and running :)
  • trza · 1 year ago
for me, i am happy just having the icon on my phone :D

thanks guys, looking forward to full action.
  • Eldrial · 1 year ago
Me too. I cannot be more excited to use it, and really hope you guys can get the ball rolling. But take your time. I'll wait as long as it takes to get the servers stable and hopefully fast to use.
  • Alex · 1 year ago
I cant Login. And when I do, cant keep a steady connection. I have 4 accounts and they light up and then disappear.
  • tushioh · 1 year ago
I think this is going to be the best IM app ever. I just wish that the upgrades and other things relating this app would be free like other app updates.
  • Saverio · 1 year ago
Most upgrades will be free. Just don't expect MC 3.5 or 4 to be free. Those are major upgrades that include major features.
  • shawn · 1 year ago
Are you serious? We paid for an application that doesn't work and we're going to be charged for updates that will make it work? WTF?
  • Shaun · 1 year ago
I think you misunderstood. Future upgrades that are considered "major releases" we reserve the right to charge for.

Bug fixes and minor upgrades to the current version will remain free. You won't have to pay again to fix any issues you're currently having.
  • Johnny · 1 year ago
I don't really think that is right either. You dropped an app that simply doesn't work and charged people money for something it does not do. OF COURSE YOU SHOULD FIX THEM FOR FREE!

Out of courtesy, you should provide those who had to deal with your shortcomings with free access to say 3.5 or 4.

    What an awful business model.
  • shawn · 1 year ago
Are you serious? We paid for an application that doesn't work and we're going to be charged for updates that will make it work? WTF?
  • Magnus Nordlander · 1 year ago
You guys keeping up the good work is compensation enough. Bring on the IM-on-iPhone goodness!
  • trantor · 1 year ago
No compensations needed for me :) Just take your time and make it work :)
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
No compensation needed :) Just happy to see you guys working on this, and doing a decent job at that.

What I would prefer, is for these points to be adressed by yourselves. Perhaps just with answers as to how/when you are fixing these issues:

    1. The app crashes/freezes when opening it.
This happens quite frequently, more or less every second time the app is opened.

    2. Charsets for other languages than english.
Being danish and having a slightly different alphabet, results in these not showing up correctly. The letters æ, ø and å are working fine in the messages I send, but in messages recieved, they screw up the entire message. Considering that this app is launched "worldwide", I would expect something as simple as the character-set to be fixed so as to allow for the different countries alphabets to be used correctly, both in recieving and in sending messages. Anything else is "app-breaking".

    3. MSN nicks not appearing, mail-adresses used instead.
This is absolutely annoying. Considering that MSN is the no. 1. IM client in europe, and considering the fact that people do not normally remember their contacts email adresses, this issue needs a quick fix. It should, without a doubt be possible to have contact names shown instead of mail-adresses.

    4. Messages that do not get through.
I have several times today, when testing this app, not recieved quite a few messages from different contacts (MSN). Now, if this is due to the pressure on your servers today, please let us know. If you have no idea as to why messages have not gotten through, please let us know. If this is a fix underway, please let us know.

    5. Push-notification via mail.
This simply is not functioning whatsoever. Has been tested with more than 25 messages, and not a single email has been recieved to notify of new messages. Immediate fix required in my book, as this feature without a doubt is one of the strongest "selling points" at the moment.

You're doing a good job guys, especially considering there's only two of you.

Please, pretty please with sugar on top, respond to the issues mentioned in this post shortly.

    Regards.
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
In the app store, if you look to the right when on the download page for MC3, it displays languages. Unfortunatly, English is the only lang supported. I can bet more langs will come into play with future update. By the way the app as of now is the 15th most popular paid application! Congrats, looks like it with be within 10 yet today!
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
This is all fine and well.

However, implementing charsets is but a sinch really. I personally cannot see how this has not happened yet.

Still, I would like clarification on all issues mentioned in my original post, preferably from the dear dev's themselves :)
  • Magnus Nordlander · 1 year ago
The charset issue doesn't just affect Danish, you know. It affects English too. Try using characters like é or ç (like in café or façade). Same problem.

This doesn't man that this is a walk in the park, charsets are a pain i the lower back region.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
i wish shaun or someone wouldanswer me with the tzones hack for tmobile.
    some apps dont work.
  • Saverio · 1 year ago
We have no plans to support unofficial carriers at this time. We may do this in the future; however, if it is against the SDK Terms (I have to read it again.) you can forget that idea all together.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
its an internet server from tmobile that you put in proxy settings and you get almost full internet for 6$
if it wont work for it then i have no reason to of bought this application because i wont even be able to use it unless im hooked up to wifi.
  • kam · 1 year ago
And what you're doing is clearly illegal. So piss off you cheap sod.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
Well everything else works with it so idk why this isn't.
How is it illegal? I still pay for Internet. It's just not 100%Internet for like YouTube
  • kam · 1 year ago
Because obviously you're not supposed to be abusing your 6$ Internet by using the proxy hack, dumbass.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    Dude stfu with the names.
I wasn't even fuking talking to u in the first place.
Idc if it's illegal it should be able to wrk still.
I bought the app so I want it to work ysnno?

If it's not gonna work I want my 3$ back because I have no use for this app.
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
Well, obviously you shouldnt abuse it to begin with.

    Refund ? Not likely.
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
Saverio... would you be able to make a post about Security (see the comments in the update before this one). It has now become a bigger issue (at least for me) than the fact that the service is not quite working right now.
  • dan · 1 year ago
i second this request. its come up here a few times in comments, and is also being brought up on TUAW a bit. some details about how our data (user/passes) are handled would be nice.
  • Daniel · 1 year ago
I posted this before, but it kinda got burried with the massive amounts of people complaining of outages ;) So I'll post it again...here's a list of things that definitely need worked on / developed:

    1.) Contact list groups!
2.) Sorting / Reorganizing contacts within groups!
3.) Mobile status icons for buddies (as opposed to just having them appear as online).
4.) Fixed login system...this should be handled on the accounts tab! The current system is unintuitive.
5.) Ability to set status as invisible...this should be handled on the status tab!
    6.) Overall UI sluggishness
7.) E-Mail notifications? (I imagine this may be related to your server problems...)

Great app, though...keep up the hard work and you'll have a winner :)
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
8.Idle....Knowing when people are idle on their computer
  • Daniel · 1 year ago
Good call....I totally forgot about that. I also thought of a new one:

9.) Functioning ability to load a buddies profile. At the moment I see that MC is trying to load it, but it never shows up.
  • Rojo · 1 year ago
If you guys can somehow make this work smoothly by the end of this week, then congrats. And I don't mean just "sometimes," like with MobileMe in the beginning -- but MOST of the time. There's nothing more frustrating then wondering whether or not your friends are getting your IM messages or not. The ONE time I was able to connect with MC last night, I tried IMing a friend online, and it LOOKED like he was getting the messages. However, he never responded. When I logged onto my computer and asked him, he said he had been on for hours, and never got anything from me. Yes, I know nothing was working last night, and so I'll give it another chance later this week -- but stuff like that can't continue to happen guys.

I'll repeat a few things from my last post, yet to be addressed:
*Are you guys willing to expand your operation beyond "just two guys"? Your app has the potential to be the biggest seller in the AppStore. It's currently, as I write this, #15 in Top Paid Apps -- and that's WITH all the bad reviews, and TONS of people holding off on buying until things are worked out. You guys are going to make a small fortune, and so you can afford expanding. You're going to need it.
    * What about security? There's been no talks of it, and frankly many people are justifiably concerned. Even if you say "security measures are expected to come in place in an update," it would make a lot of people feel better. You guys have been very honest about everything else, so it's time to be honest about security. Your paying public deserves to know.
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
All I get is cant connect to servers, check website for updates....
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
no compensations needed here other than you guys sticking to your prediction for tonight. I can't w8. Just take your time. We would rather w8 another day than have it running now then crashing again. Good luck.
  • Mike · 1 year ago
Can't wait for the great app to work at 100%. But in time. Til then, one suggestion, dont have the app automatically retry very quickly to reconnect your account if you mistyped your password, this has been keeping me from connecting for over 30 minutes now. :(
  • Gary · 1 year ago
Now it's working great. But I just found this app just supports English input. No Japanese and Chinese input support.
  • rayrayart · 1 year ago
why it cannot connect with EGDE in Tmoilbe 5,99 plan ....
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
I hope they fix txones 5.99

Yay, I'm in and I just about instantly like it better than Palringo. Keep plugging away guys, your efforts are much appreciated!! (I know how it is to work for a small software company, so I feel your pain).
  • V · 1 year ago
It worked for a bit, now every time I open the screen goes dim as if its about to pop up a message and it crashes.
  • britt · 1 year ago
its the 5th most brought app on itunes for me

anyway i just brought it, looking forward to having a go with it... when the downtime ends
  • Chon_Lee · 1 year ago
The program seems to work great but I'm having an issue connecting to SSL on jabber.

First I got a SASL Authentication Failed. Changed a few settings and then received a 409: conflict error. Any help would be great.
  • Alexander Repty · 1 year ago
I have to say I'm a little pissed off. I was looking forward to finally having a multi-format instant messaging client on my iPhone, so I bought the application only to find out that nothing about it works at all. I am really disappointed and hope that you manage to find a solution as soon as possible.
  • Steve Sizemore · 1 year ago
This looks like it's going to be a great app. I'm hoping email notifications will start working soon. Of course that's only a work around until apple releases 2.1.

Question: I heard that email notification will only work on AIM, Me.com, and .Mac accounts. Is this true. I'd like to get email notification with my google talk account.

Thanks for keeping us informed on the blog.
  • Chon_Lee · 1 year ago
from what I can tell that's only sms that works for those 3 accounts. For sms it gave me a warning saying it was not available for jabber but it seemed to accept email notifications, although I have not received a notification yet.
  • Steve Sizemore · 1 year ago
Yeah, you're right SMS notifications only work on AIM, me, and .mac accounts. Email notification should work on all the account types, but doesn't seem to be. Thanks for the reply.
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
Went from 15th most downloaded to 13th within 30 minutes! wow
  • chris · 1 year ago
Isn't it like one month to the day since the app store opened? That's probably not a coincidence regarding your app and the AIM app that launched on 7/12.
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
    What?!
  • Justin · 1 year ago
Can't wait for it to get working, seems really great. just from screenies haha.

Haven't actually been able to log in yet, but I understand with the servers being overloaded and whatnot.
  • fafdaf · 1 year ago
You can compensate us by adding grounps and usernames to the buddy list ; ) And while your at it.. throw in a hide offline contacts option :P
  • joe · 1 year ago
I'm hoping there's an update that allows you to switch to home screen the back without logging out.
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
That is one of the main points of this app. You are never disconnected from the service unless you go into the status menu and select Offline. That is why we connect to their servers and then their servers keep the connection the the IM services' servers, even if the app is closed.
  • joe · 1 year ago
nice! palringo is really annoying me
  • josh · 1 year ago
    However it works "too well".

No matter how I leave the account at the mobilechat app (account disabled or just set as off line); mobile chat servers ALWAYS log in my msn account by themselves. Any mssages sent to me by my contacts disappear in a MC limbo somewhere.

What's more. When I use msn on my computer, and immediately log out, mobile chat servers kick in and keep me logged in, despite being offline myself and having set the app as offline and the msn account disabled.

I've had to changedb ALL my passwords toprevent this from happening. Also, deleting the account from the app did not actually removed it from their servers since they kept logging in.

This is VERY serious and needs IMMEDIATE fixing before the app becomes more popular.
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
I am having the same problem. I can't sign on the AIM because the servers keep trying and trying. I get the dreaded "you've been logged out and in to rapildy" or what not. At first I was cutting them some slack on the servers being down. But now I'm just becoming pissed because now they are messing with my accounts. This is definitely the worst purchase I have ever made on the app store. I'm done being patient, there are too many problems BEYOND the servers not working.
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago

I just paid $3.00 for a downtime message. Money well spent? Doubt it.
  • Jason · 1 year ago
As with text messages when you have some waiting the icon has a number with how many messages are waiting... will this be coming to MC with a future update? I noticed it does if you open MC and then close it with a message still unread, but doesn't if you're just at the home screen.
  • monkeyrun · 1 year ago
    I am getting this message

"We are experiencing downtime. Please check tumblr.twenty08.com for updates."

It'll be better if there is a button that opens the link "tumblr.twenty08.com".
And have a status page somewhere.

Looks to be a great app, can you add support for the skype chat as well?
  • Chrisb27 · 1 year ago
Relax everyone, I'm sure they are on their 5th or 6th pot of coffee burning the midnight oil. Launches don't always go well, hell look at Apple and the 3G iPhone / MobileMe. We've been waiting for a few weeks now - a few days isn't going to kill me.
  • Harrison · 1 year ago
You should compensate all users who have already purchased this product and are having issues with free upgrades forever.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    I hope they fix it
  • Andrew · 1 year ago
I bought the app and it hasn't worked yet. So far I'm not a fan. In my opinion you shouldn't sell it until it is working.
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
your not following what happened are you.? It worked at first then crashed because of idiots like you
  • Magnus Nordlander · 1 year ago
It was working earlier, their servers are just overloaded because a lot of people have bought the app, and they're trying to use it.

Sort of like what happened with MobileMe or iPhone activation on launch day.
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
can we get another update it's been exactly 2 hours
  • wasabi · 1 year ago
no worries. i got my copy. i haven't been able to log on. but i'm just excited that it's out. just take your time.
  • trisha · 1 year ago
    Looking forward to it working!!

Neither my yahoo or msn account will log in :(

Fingers crossed it will work soon :)
  • Kirk · 1 year ago
From those of us who are level-headed: Thank you for this app. It looks fantastic. We will wait patiently for your servers to start functioning normally and will look forward to future updates as you (and Apple) make them available.

To all of those who are not level-headed: Lay off people. Put yourself in the shoes of this tiny company that is trying to do a great big thing. Give them some freakin' space and time to work.

Great work, guys! I'm HAPPY to pay a meesly $2.99 and would pay much more for a quality app that will only get better as time passes.
  • Alec · 1 year ago
Get off your high horse. Jesus.
  • Joshua · 1 year ago
You probably own a PS3, too.
Gladly paying $599 for a hardware that the developer will someday harvest its full power.
I'll make you an app called "I'm a capitalism slave" that costs $9,999 and promises you a better way of life. I'm sure someone named "Kirk" will gladly buy it and defend his purchase.
Go sip on your over-priced $4 latte and proudly stare at your "I am rich" app, while the real consumers voice their opinion freely, you tweet.
  • Dan M · 1 year ago
I mean, this is coming from someone who honestly has no idea, but apple I presume takes no responsibility for maintaining the application if it uses/needs servers? Sorry if that doesn't really make sense, I'm not sure how to phrase it.
  • Mario · 1 year ago
Looking very much forward to being able to connect to the servers!

Keep it up guys ... this must be very exciting (and scary)
  • tacobell · 1 year ago
I understand how hard it is to make an app hope everything gets up and working by tonight btw for the people who bought the app do they get free updates?
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
Minor updates will be free. Major will not.

Not sure how I feel about that tbh, but hey, we'll see :)

Not really too happy about not having issues adressed even briefly though
  • emceeIPhone · 1 year ago
Updates? Gosh, I'd be happy if we could get this version to simply log in.
  • Don · 1 year ago
Folks, this app is the price of a cup of coffee. No worries!
As a developer I appreciate the logistics of getting this up and running.
I appreciate the effort, and the candid explanations from the team is refreshing!
  • stealth · 1 year ago
I think you guys should offer us refunds.
  • dan · 1 year ago
it seems as though setting a specific status message does not work entirely. the basic available/away status itself is being shown, but custom status messages are not reflected it seems.
  • Shaun · 1 year ago
Just a quick heads up to those wanting answers, I'm going to address just about all of the questions posted in here in a blog post later tonight.
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
    Excellent Shaun.

    That's about all I ask :)
  • emceeIPhone · 1 year ago
I think you could solve 90% of these posts if you would just let us know if/when it is going to work.
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
    where can we report bugs?
  • thechiman · 1 year ago
I appreciate the updates. Hope you guys get this working soon. I used mc back in the jailbreaking days and was happy. Speaking of which, could you guys redesign the icon to have more red? I know that's a weird request, and I don't expect you guys to do so. But I just had to ask. Keep up the (potentially good) work!
  • Striatum · 1 year ago
OT: Will MobileChat at some point support Skype for IM (not for voice chat) ?
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
Everything is working here... Hopefully it stays that way. This app is great minus a few bugs!
  • Flan · 1 year ago
People get their undies in a bundle over such inane things. OK you spent 2.99, so what you saved yourself a heart attack by passing on that sandwich at Micky D's. Clearly things come up and break/don't work. Just show a little patience and give the Dev's a break huh?

My God, you'd think they spent 9,999.99 on 'I am Rich' and it didn't show a red Jewel on their displays :\ Sheesh.

They will fix it...It will work.

    Rant off>
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
The problem is not if it will work or not. I am quite confident that the gents will get it there.

My point is, Beejive have already stated that they will release an IM app "sometime in september", and if MobileChat want to keep the majority of the market, then the issues will absolutely need to be fixed.

One simple example: Beejive in the web version already caters for charsets other than english, making it a no-brainer for people with non-english characters once it is released along with push-notification.

On the other hand, I am quite positive that if the issues with MobileChat get resolved prior to Beejive's release, then they will most likely "own" the market. Or at least hold the majority of marketshares for IM-apps.
  • zergworld · 1 year ago
Agreed. These guys are offering a neat product for beans. I pay ATT $100/month, and I get crappy service from them, not to mention that their SMS rates would give you a grand total of 30 messages for the cost of the MobilApp software. Now, considering that you pay for incoming SMS as well, that's really only 15 outgoing messages if you're actually chatting with someone... and you are.

Once the servers are up and running, you'll forget about the shaky start, and you'll continue to take this gift for granted. These guys deserve every $ and kudos for keeping us up to date on the state of affairs.

The developers have already promised some form of compensation. Perhaps they'll take some extra feature requests or perhaps free access to another of their apps? In any case, we'll be rolling soon, and I hope these dudes get to roll in some dough.
  • myneid · 1 year ago
yea $3 isnt too much. i figured i could wait till september to see what is offered but even if mobilechat doesnt work out, $3 isnt too much to pay for something for the interim. I'm sure they will work out their server issues and this software is so awsome for being exactly what i want and they found a way around the push stuff with sms/email notification.
i think you guys could have charged $9.99 and as many people would have bought it (though much more would complain) but you have ongoing server bills that will add up with each $3 user. keep at the good work here.
  • stealth · 1 year ago
Does anyone else notice that MSN contacts have no display picture. I don't think it is supposed to be the case because there are always around 2 that do have one
  • emceeIPhone · 1 year ago
Yes, I noted that as well. I've also seen that MSN contact do not display the alias.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
if tzones doesnt work i wanna refund.
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
    You, sir, are dimwitted.

Sorry, but there is absolutely no better way of saying it. Not a SINGLE app on appstore is quoted as being compatible with unofficial carriers.

If you are using an unofficial carrier, then you yourself have "screwed" yourself so to speak.

A refund for that? Not likely. I mean, you dont buy a phone locked to a specific carrier, and expect everything to run on an unofficial carrier, do you? Sheesh.
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
Well before I bought it I asked if it was going to and said it should.
I shoulda gotten a No so I wouldn't of bought it.
They shoulda said it doesn't work before it was out.

Soo yes I want it to work or refund it.
They need to change the port to 110 instead of the 4 digit it's at normally,
    Thanks,

If I could switch to AT&T I would just for this application
  • Mark · 1 year ago
    Shut up about Tzones!
  • Mark · 1 year ago
And I think you missed :

"Saverio: We have no plans to support unofficial carriers at this time. We may do this in the future; however, if it is against the SDK Terms (I have to read it again.) you can forget that idea all together."

You honestly thought it would work? Seriously?
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    yep.
    why wouldnt it?
    every other aim client works?
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
then use those you retard. obviously your too cheap to use at&t so you dont deserve one of the greatest apps created
  • MarcMiller · 1 year ago
    Nah it should work.
    Alot of people have t-mobile.
I already paid for this app so what do you expect now?
I'm just not gonna do anything?

It's not hard you change the port from what I've heard.
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
Shouldnt this keep you logged in indefinitely? I get booted after like 15 mins of closing the program...

    Thanks :)
  • Richard Searley · 1 year ago
mine keeps me logged in, but it is the mc server that keep you logged in, if the software or server is restarted/crashed then i guess it will log you out

    Push E-mail... still a nogo.

Still no go for me.. Im in the UK does that make any difference? wondering why some users have no issues yet others like myself are???
  • Richard Searley · 1 year ago
im in the uk and it has been ok for an hour or 2, try deleteing you account and re entering it!
  • trisha · 1 year ago
Hey there thanks Richard... did just that and its working now!!! so basically if I go to the home screen it should remain logged in and send me emails of alerts??? :)
  • Shaun · 1 year ago
Email alerts are not currently enabled. We have them disabled to alleviate some of the strain on the servers. Once we get the servers running smooth we'll kick on email alerts.

Glad to hear you got it to work though!
  • trisha · 1 year ago
Thanks for the reply shaun I will wait for them to be enabled! will be a kool addition :)

And thanks Stevin I'm sat here not daring to go to the home screen :( lol

because its very finicky... sometimes we get on sometimes we dont... i just noticed i got logged off which is exactly whats not supposed to happen :P

but its getting there.. keep trying. the worst you can do by trying is add to the server load problem!

The only problem is I cannot read Chinese message :(

Once again, the charset problem rears its ugly head.

A charset should without a doubt be coupled with the iphones settings so as to automatically choose which is to be used.

Take your time, no compensation needed for me. To who complains, I remind that a full on-the-road beta testing with iPhone apps it's not easy at all...
  • Jake · 1 year ago
What's all this crap about "Unfair to pay for major upgrades". Maybe they should learn to code, learn to do all this stuff with the servers, and then see how they feel about not charging for their hard work. There's no complaints about Apple charging for OS Leopard. This is no different.

Just stupid people thinking that the app makers are there to wait on their every word for nothing.

Keep up the good work guys, I'd be happy to wait a week if it just gets sorted out (Also - any chance of adding optional display of friend's display names, as it would be a nice addition!).
  • MILE · 1 year ago
Man, looks like you shot sourself in the foot with this one...!? ;)

Anyway, I don't really want any compensation, 3$ is nothing to worry about, as long as you manage to deliver soon...! Actually I'm pretty fed up with people demanding to get everything for free in the app store by now...

Instead of a compensation I'd rather see you update as soon as possible and implement at least a few of the many suggestions listed in the comments...! Localization and support for international characters being rather high on my own personal wish list, by the way...!

If you need someone to help you with a German translation to include in a future update, feel free to contact me...!

Other than that, I'm not going to repeat the other stuff that's been suggested in several comments, I guess you'll filter it out and (hopefully) make the right choices...
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
did you disable SMS push too shaun? Mine just stopped. Also, I keep getting that darn "You tried to log in too many times" message... My desktop client logs in fine... any chance to disable this?
  • FayeP · 1 year ago
Guys, do you have a separate forum for reports? I think you have a problem with clients reconnecting. If you disconnect (exit the app while available) it can take several attempts to reconnect your session. My guess for this is that only one of the servers in the farm has your session connected, and when you connect, you don't necessarily hit that server. When you hit the right server, your session is reconnected just fine. Until you do, you get the progress bar in un-progressing grey under your account.
  • AJ · 1 year ago
Awesome product when it's fully finished.

Good work guys, just take your time.
  • William Mark · 1 year ago
Uhhhggg. I just purchased your app about an hour ago not realizing all of the problems. While I sympathize, this is terrible. You should have pulled your app from the iTunes store until all of these problems are resolved. I now have a useless app. Hopefully you can solve these issues soon.

    William
  • Shaun · 1 year ago
Do you know of a way that developers can pull their apps from iTunes? As far as we can see, we're pretty much stuck.

If you know how, let us know!
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
Shaun, in all fairness, I'd let it be and get fixes up asap.

Had it been my app, then I might just have released it a bit different. A limited free version up today to test the waters so to speak, to allow for bugtesting and so on, and then a full blown release next week.

All of which, in hindsight, is easy to mention ;)
  • Magnus Nordlander · 1 year ago
From what I've heard, you can remove your own apps, however, you'll have to submit a new version to get it up again (which means waiting for Apple to approve it again).

I haven't personally done it yet (haven't even gotten my developer key yet), but I'm sure if you ask around in either #iphonedev or #iphonesb on Freenode someone will know how to do it.
  • shableep · 1 year ago
Even Apple had downtime when they launched the iPhone 3G. So give these guys a little slack.
  • Marius Ciortea · 1 year ago
I'm all ok with you guys working on the issues. Could give us an update so that I don't check my iPhone every hour so. Just tell me to wait till tomorrow. Even if I would not like this, I would appreciate the communication.
  • Loredana · 1 year ago
Hey guys... in the spirit of good customer service, you should pull the app out of the app store until you actually provide the service you promise. I know it's cheap, and I full-well know how hard it is to make any decent app. But buying something that simply doesn't work will not get you guys any loyal following. I for one am disappointed. We all live in the world of instant gadget gratification, don't we?
  • Johnny · 1 year ago
100% agreed. This is just awful. What an awful plan.
  • Andy · 1 year ago
Completely agree with LD here. I downloaded the app last night and haven't even seen it work yet. Thats pretty disappointing when you pay for something that doesn't work. In the future if there is competition for them I will most likely buy the other app.
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
Do you guys not read... they cannot pull it from the app store!
  • Ryan · 1 year ago
i will repeat what shaun said for him. If you can find a way to remove an app from the store let him know.
  • Chris · 1 year ago
You guys ever looked at SliceHost? Granted, it's probably not as good as dedicated servers, but they do have an API for automatic, and instant provisioning. Plus you're not locked into hardware ownership.
  • Saverio · 1 year ago
We actually use SliceHost and we love it! However, our servers are OS X based and we can't deploy just anywhere.

if i cant get it to work since im on a "unofficial" carrier can i just get a refund?
i had to no idea it wouldnt work because all my other apps that use data work..

maybe yous can change the aim port to 110 so tmobile ppl and at&t can sign on?
if not its a good app but i cant use it =[

from what i hear shits improving soo keep it up it'll be amazing for everyone.

i paid for this idfc if i tmobile or not.
im not the only one trying to get this app working with tmobile.

i want it fuking fixed so stfu.
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
And I'm quite sure that the way to get it fixed is to tear into people in the way you are currently doing.

Please note what the devs have already said. NO plans of supporting unofficial carriers. Guess what that means? No chance for you to get it working within the foreseeable future.

    Now, two options are left:

    1. Stop with the whining about it. You yourself have chosen an unofficial carrier.

    or

    2. Contact Apple for a refund. The devs cannot give you one.

And please, pretty please, stop with the so-called "gangsta-speak". Your e-peen wont grow, you do not come off as a tough guy, quite the contrary.
  • Brian · 1 year ago
Ok, so if you won't entertain my offer to send you $3, I would say go ahead and contact apple for a refund. I'm sure they would love to hear your sad t-mobile story.
  • jumajunkie · 1 year ago
how can u test something without releasing it. customers are the ones who make apps better
  • Bob · 1 year ago
You obviously know nothing about software development. You MUST test software before releasing it to the public. There are several reasons for this, including (but not limited to) loss of revenue, bad company image, security, stability, etc.

You DO NOT want your customers being your testers. Granted, a QA unit can't possibly test every conceivable "edge" condition, but you have to do due diligence to make sure you get the vast majority of them. Basic connectivity is NOT an edge condition. And this testing also needs to include load testing. Seeing as how this was a communications application, I would have estimated the number of expected number of users by a factor of at least 10. I would have also done load testing to make sure the servers could handle the expected load, hammering those boxes with as much as I could throw at it. Apparently not nearly enough of these things were done here.

    And it shows.
  • Ben · 1 year ago
Think of it this way... You guys handled your launch a hell of a lot better than MobileMe
  • jordan · 1 year ago
I just downloaded this app and it just warns me to come here and i cant use it. LAAAME...
  • Dan · 1 year ago
    SERVER-BASED = FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!
No matter how much u guys try!

I knew about the launch of MobileChat for quite some time, and honestly the reason why there is so much hype for it is cause it used to be one of the best apps for jailbroken ipod/iphone. But the idea that this v3.0 now relies entirely on a server running, totally kills it! (And also costs money so that u can run this stupid server.)

Microsoft attempted, for example, making their Deepfish browser for windows mobile which was suppose to use their server so it can run extremely fast, but they failed. Why should this be any different?

Also, do i hear that right: Any minor updates for MobileChat will be free, but major updates will cost money???... I yet to see a single app on App store that charges for updates as well.

Anyways the only way i will be convinced to buy this app is if when September comes with all new SDK to support background running, u guys will completely remove the idea of using a dedicated server to run this app, since there will be no need for that any more; and add more functionality like sending pictures, music, and files to each other within the app that Palringo (which is free) i think might already offer.
Also, i doubt Palringo runs the same way this MobileChat does. Am i correct?

Anyways, this app has a loooong way to go!!!!
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
    Well written Dan.

I am especially fond of your "when September comes with all new SDK to support background running" comment.

Please, read up on things before posting. Apple will NOT at any point in time allow apps running in the background that are not specifically created by themselves. The new SDK will allow for push-notification which in turn will require a , yes you guessed it, dedicated server, exactly as is done with this app now.

I repeat, Apple will NOT at any point allow non-apple created apps running in the background. Period.
  • Chrisb27 · 1 year ago
The idea is as well that you stay logged into their server so it maintains your online presence. If you don't have the app open, or you happen to hit a dead spot in cell service. Please research what you are talking about before you start criticizing things.
  • peteo · 1 year ago
Ist "September comes with all new SDK to support background running"

SDK does not allow background running. It sets up an APPLE process on your iphone that talks to APPLE's "messaging" server.

2nd. In order for any thing to talk to APPLES "messaging" server it must run on its own server. So any program taking advantage of APPLES "messaging" server has to run a server (or computer or what ever) to talk to APPLES server.

I.E. you want to make an iPhone program call DAN's CHAT Program. and you want it to get Alerts in the background. Then you would need a server that would pick up the chat messages, send an alert to APPLE's "messaging" server and then APPLE's "messaging" server would send an alert to that users iPhone. the user would then open the program, the program would talk to your server that has the stored IM.

3rd $3 is nothing, NOTHING. cup of coffee cost more than that. They should charge for Major updates. Why? Because they are running servers that cost money every day so you can get your IM's and they dont blast you with a million adds like AOL/MSN does.

4th Palringo only works when its open. I does not have a server running in the background so you will not get IMs when the app is closed!

5th having a Server is not "stupid", its the only way you are going to get a multi IM client on the iPhone that works when the program is closed. If you don't have a server it will NOT WORK when its CLOSED. GOT IT?
  • Shady P. · 1 year ago
APPS can be pulled form appstore immediately. I dont know how buy some of you may have noticed that phonesaber ran into some issues with lucasarts and were forced to pull the app imediately form the app store. apple did not do it but the developers of phonesaber did.
  • kameko · 1 year ago
Seems as though Mobilechat has now temporarily disabled my AIM account! I tried logging into your crappy service last night a few times and then ended up with that "Your account has been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. Try again in 10 minutes"

It is now the next day, and i can't even log into my aim account on my own computer due to the same warning now.

Thanks a lot mobilechat! I will be requesting a refund asap and look for a better solution down the road.

What the...? What happened to the MC3 icon you guys displayed on here? The one on my springboard is incredibly ugly and I was really disappointed by it, can we please have the one that you showed off in earlier posts?
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
What are you talking about? It is exactly the same as when they first revealed it. The blue and white MC icon.
  • Chris Ricci · 1 year ago
uhhh grrr? i haven't even connected yet and it keeps telling me to stop connecting and disconnecting and wait for 10 minutes. i'm sorry but it keeps trying to connect me and i can't stop it! and when it does connect, it signs me off right away and tells me the server is down!
  • Kory · 1 year ago
I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but do you guys have plans to make links clickable within the chat bubbles? Sorry if this has been brought up already, just didn't want to sort through 150+ comments of bitching to find out...Thanks!
  • Dan · 1 year ago
Um, u can already do it in Palringo, which is free. Why bother with this app?
Just noticed that a new update for Palringo also supports vocal instant messenging.
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
Palringo signs you out of the services if you close the app... this doesn't... THAT'S THE POINT!
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
At the moment, the major difference between palringo and mobilechat is the fact that mobilechat will keep you signed in, even when the app is closed down.

Now, palringo cannot do this. Yet.

You can send images in mobilechat. You can click links in mobilechat.

Here's a tip. You obviously have no interest whatsoever in mobilechat. Why not stick with palringo, and leave this blog be? No need for more flaming of mobilechat, it's getting there, slowly but surely.
  • Dan · 1 year ago
I know that the point of a server is that MobileChat will let u stay signed on when u close it. But we are only like a few weeks away from a new SDK which will then no longer require a server. Why go through all this trouble? Personally, i think this is all apple's fault of not having it in the first place. But paying 3$ (which is nothing really) just to keep the servers running, which right now are a failure, (also somebody mentioned that the developers see all our passwords this way) isn't really worth it for me.
My question is: can they get rid of this mechanism when SDK comes out?
  • Dan · 1 year ago
In all respects, aside of that, I see Palringo right now as more supperior IM than MobileChat.
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
Please, dear, read what people write. Hell, go read the SDK.

There will _ALWAYS_ be a need for a server, end of story. Running apps in the background will NOT be allowed by apple, ever. Period.

There. I wrote it in a short way. Understand now?
  • Dan · 1 year ago
Oh really. Then why when i search on google, i stumble upon things like "New iPhone 2.1 OS SDK beta brings background notification tools to developers - Push background notification coming soon".
It's a fact that some developers already have that feature.

And yeah, i agree there would be no such things as multitasking. Just for notifications, that's what i meant last time.
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
Dan, scroll up to your former post responded to by myself and Peteo.

Read Peteo's quite excellent explanation on how push-notification works. It will make everything much clearer for you.

Push notifications will not be running in the background either, hence the word "Push".

What happens is this: An app (lets for fun just imagine MobileChat) has a server to which all users log in. This server keeps the users connections online. If a message is sent to a user, it is "noticed" by the server, and a message is sent to Apple's notification server, which then "pushes" a notification to the users phone, essentially putting the "1" logo on top of the app in question, and for example making the phone vibrate.

Now, this cannot be done without a server. This is development 101. If you do not have a server to connect to, you will not be online. Period. And since you cannot have apps running in the background, the only solution to this, is to log in to a server that will keep your connection "online" even when you close down the app.

A bit clearer now? No server to keep the connection online = no connection in iPhone terms.
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
Sweep... That was a wonderful explaination! I couldn't have said it better myself... I know, I tried earlier.
  • ChrisRustage · 1 year ago
Mobilechat may well be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but for me right now its the worst £1.75 I've spent on the iphone (or however much I paid) . I'm not bitter - I just want this thing to work as advertised. The biggest selling point to the MobileChat app is the ability to use another app while still remaining 'online' - however, after a number of attempts, I'm still getting the 'Cannot Connect To MobileChat' and 'xxx@xx is not connected'.

I hope you guys can get this app up to speed quickly before your competitors release a newer version with the same ability.
  • Stevin3 · 1 year ago
I'm going to throw this idea out there...... Do you think you guys could create a form where I (some of us) can input our email address' and then have you send us an email when this business gets fixed?

I'm at home by my computer and have absolutely no reason to use mobilechat right now... but find myself trying to log on all the time to see if its up and running !!!!

I also think that this would probably help with all the people whining and moaning.

    Keep up the good work!
  • Stuart · 1 year ago
Anyone else having problems with .mac accounts?? When I can get mobilechat to actually work, I am able to add my Yahoo and Google Talk accounts and they sign in, but .mac just doesn't work. It keeps giving me an error message saying that the username is invalid (which I know it isn't).

Seems that mobilechat doesn't recognize username@mac.com and instead tells me that usernamemac.com is an invalid username..

    Looks like a bug.
  • rtghhreh · 1 year ago
    Hey guys!
I'm siked that the app is finally out and cant wait for it to be up and running!
I have a question though. Is there going to be an easier way of closing chats in the future? i think its a little weird how you have to go to edit and delete them.
and also, (not that I'll ever use it cause i have an iTouch and i find it a tad bit unneccesary) are you planning on having the voice chat feature added later (like Palringo added in their latest update(dont get me wrong i hated Palringo but it seemed kinda cool that the came out with that feature))

Thanks! Keep up the good work guys!
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
I agree the voice chat feature is cool! And the interface on MC does need some work, but that is for a later update, after everything else is working!
  • bbplayer5 · 1 year ago
hope this is fixed in the next couple days :(
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
Just an update (incase Saverio and Sean are reading). I can now connect to your servers EVERYTIME I attempt to. Now the problem is that your servers cannot connect me to AIM servers. I get the same message everyone else does about waiting 10 minutes. So now it looks like we have a new problem YIPPIE! Keep up the hard work guys, we appriciate it!
  • Leo_Marc · 1 year ago
I'm not going to be like the rest of these people and complain about cost of major upgrades. Guess the real question, which I think will clear it up, is what counts as major updates? Does the Addition of Groups? Does an identifier of which service they are connected to? How about integration with the iPhones Phonebook (for SMS)? A cleaner interface for managing different accounts? Are those features considered minor or major? I think that the application falls a bit short especially if those items are considered to be major updates with additional costs.

I know that you are busy, hope you can clear this up once the server issues are taken care of.
  • App Store Customer · 1 year ago
To be honest I am NOT a happy customer right now... I was very eager to download your app and as soon as it was released I purchased it. Now I feel like I bought a useless app and may as well have flushed $3 down the toilet. (I know it is not a lot of money but it is the principle.)

You talked about compensating us which is a good idea but there is only one thing that will keep me (and many other customers) a loyal customer of your current and future apps. You need to provide us with...

    FREE UPGRADES FOR LIFE!

There is no reason why you should have originally planned to charge more money for an update. NO ONE ELSE CHARGES FOR UPDATES! No matter how much functionality you add to the app it is still first and foremost an Instant Messaging app and we already bought the Twenty08 instant messaging app.

I understand that you are a small startup but this is ridiculous. How can you even think about charging for updates?

I DARE YOU TO NAME ONE OTHER DEVELOPER WHO CHARGED FOR AN UPDATE!

You guys really need to get this up and running ASAP and you owe your loyal customers who bought this app first (and paid the price for doing so) nothing less than free updates for life.
  • jonny · 1 year ago
ask for a refund and shut up whineypants.
  • Sweep · 1 year ago
How 'bout a cookie? Maybe even with a glass of lukewarm milk to go with it?

Name one other developer who charged for an update?

Well, lets first of all define what an update is.

It is an improvement of existing functionality, design or layout.

Now, lets compare MobileChat to, oh lets say, windows. Now, I too would be upset if I had purchased Windows XP and had to pay for SP1. But I didnt. But, I would have to pay for Windows Vista when that was released if I wanted it, right? Yes.

Now , you could, just for fun, consider Windows Vista an update for Windows XP. Yes, it is indeed one hell of a massive update, but it is an update none-the-less. It adds massive funtionality, design and new GUI.

Now, lets go back to MobileChat once again. An update fixing bugs and adding basic functionality will not cost us anything. For example version 3.1, 3.2 and so on.

However, I would only find it perfectly natural that an update to version 4.0 which essentially would be a complete makeover of everything, which adds lots of extra functionality, would cost money once again. Perfectly normal.

The same goes for for example Photoshop. CS2 cost money to buy. Updating to CS3 would cost money again. Any updates in between wouldnt cost money.

Now, enjoy your cookie and glass of milk, sit back, relax and take a deep breath while giving all this some thought :) Feel better? Look around you, the world is still turning after all!
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
You Sir or Ma'dam ARE AN IDIOT. I don't know of any other apps that have had a MAJOR upgrade (i.e. from 1.x to 2.x) only minor upgrades. Most software manufactures will put minor upgrades (i.e. 1.x to 1.x) for free, but will charge for Major upgrades. It's not about principle for you... you're pissed they took your McDonalds hamburger away from you (aka your $3). Now shut up and stop whining!
  • Leo_Marc · 1 year ago
Unless they consider basic feature set as major updates. For example, ability to message an individual not in screenname. Or add new contact to buddylist. Things like this needs to be cleared up. Though I think that some people are over reacting just a bit.
  • Unpleasant experience · 1 year ago
Well guys, i don't mind pay what I paid; i wont ask for refund because thats peanuts. But I am surprised that you haven't prepared yourself for this lunch more professionally. You are not amateurs and we are not naive. You will probably get $100 000's of profit in the next few weeks so by mention of charging us for future upgrades its seems silly.
Nether-less i am sure someone else building similar app to yours as we speak and they learn on your mistakes. If they will came up with something better I will happily switch. Thats what probably most of people think right now. So my advise is to clean up this mess asap and try to please those folks who already pay for your app, otherwise you will have to shut your servers again, but this time for good.

  • THE SOLUTION = PALRINGO · 1 year ago
    *****************PLEASE READ**************************

As like many of you I am an unhappy customer. However, who ever bought this app should definitely give "PALRINGO" a try as it has great potential to be a great app. This can be an alternative to Mobile Chat. It already has included the ability to VOICE RECORD messages to one another and SAVE images the person you chatting with sends you. All PALRINGO needs is push notifications and free of bugs and it will be a force to reckon with.

    Mobile Chat...............what happened?
  • rtghhreh · 1 year ago
True True, I won't argue. Palringo does have all those things and COULD be a good app. But it just isnt. I dont trust Palringo with security that much and I hate how they make you make an account with them. MobileChat is just down because its the opening day and lots of people are getting it to work already (which is pretty good with the fact that they didnt expect it to be up till tonight) and MobileChat has my trust with security and they have an awesome app!
It might be buggy, but seriously, most apps were VERY buggy when they first came out and this one is just going through Application-Puberty. Soon it will be running smoothly for everyone and have all the bugs worked out. And a few new feature will pop up sooner or later i bet.
Please don't try to advertise for Palringo while this is the MobileChat blog. Yes it is a blog and that means you post your ideas but its the MOBILECHAT blog. So please just go blog your hatred elsewhere.

    (P.S. Palringo Sucks!)
    (LMAO)
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
PALRINGO sucks... you have to keep the app open to stay signed onto the services (once again, one of the MAIN POINTS of MobileChat). There is a reason Palringo is free. Although the Voice Messages are cool (HINT HINT MC GUYS!). Once this is up and running smoothly, it will be much better than Palringo!
  • stealth · 1 year ago
I agree, Even the interface is better in Palringo. THe only thing is that it won't keep you signed in once you press the home button, and its that feature as to why I wanted Mobile Chat, but if it can't be done, I am fine with that.

Only 1000 sessions per box? Doesn't sound very scalable....
  • Shady P. · 1 year ago
um didnt you read 1000 AIM sessions per box. that means there are more thousands of msn and google and yahoo everywhere. Most peopel have 2 + accounts also.
  • Kawazoe · 1 year ago
1000 AIM sessions. That dosn't include the 6 other protocols. Plus, do not forget that all of those provide push messaging via EMAIL or SMS. Those take a lot of juce, just try to send a couple of email by second you'll see how slow it is and then there's sms...
  • Shady P. · 1 year ago
and most of you guys havent read apples itunes installation terms and agreement policy (who does) it clearly states somewhere in that huge mess that all purchases are not refundable unless the seller broke the rules.
  • stealth · 1 year ago
The application does not perform as advertised on iTunes
  • Kawazoe · 1 year ago
Come on! Did you expected that every single services will work the second it will be availible! It happen to every MMO so let them making it work instead of spaming them for refound.
  • Trevor · 1 year ago
Uhh, you're saying that people shouldn't expect a product to work? Are you an idiot? Wait, don't answer that. You definitely are.
  • Kawazoe · 1 year ago
I expect it to work but not to be a miracle. There was no way to know if the servers where strong anough to support the charge before the app was out. And like they said, they are upgrading them so they can handle all the connection.

There's a public message for every one, do not try to use MobileChat for the next hours and let Trevor try it so it will se the the app is working.

Ho and I was forgetting, you paid 3$ for the app, not for the servers (since you don't pay a montlly fee). If the servers are down and you're not happy with that, buy your own (about 350 a year for a cheep one) and ship it to the MobileChat team and ask for exclusivity.
  • Trevor · 1 year ago
Wow, you've proven again and again how ignorant you are. Your English is very poor so I'm going to assume that you're from another country, so I'll talk slow and make it clear: No one said that it needs to be a miracle, it just needs to fucking do what they said it was going to do when people purchased the program. Currently, it does not do anything. It's not a huge complex program, it's a fucking mobile application.

Your other comments aren't even worth addressing.
  • Kawazoe · 1 year ago
So I will reply slowly to since you did not get my point. There was blog post since yesterday (the minutes it was on the app store) saying that the server where having issues and that they'll get solved ASAP. That mean you bought the app knowing that fact so you have to expect it not to work properly for now. Of course, I assume that you where reading this blog before since you bought MobileChat that soon after the release.
  • stealth · 1 year ago
yes i do, thats why i bought it
  • goode · 1 year ago
OMFG Main rule...app must work? What about that? Think twice before you post it.
  • Johan · 1 year ago
Nice app and for me it works pretty well almost all day. Likes it. Keep up the good work!
  • areobe · 1 year ago
    It's working for me...
    Now anyway.
  • eric · 1 year ago
BEST IM client for iphone is still currently Beejive Mobile which is a web app.
all messages and connections are proxied on their servers, weakness is on safari at the moment for them.

oh yea, beejive mobile have over hundreds of thousands of iphone users and I never had any problems with their server.
  • emceeIPhone · 1 year ago
    Hear, hear!
  • Pigazine · 1 year ago
Beejive caused a lot of crashes in Safari. Also when you open another webpage and then go back to Beejive, Safari have to reload the webpage, which removed all the unread messages. I missed a lot of important message in this way.
  • lucas · 1 year ago
Glad to see it's coming along guys! You might want to update the app store page to let customers know that you are working to resolve the server issues. People are giving you low scores because not everyone checks your blog. Just a thought.
  • Chris · 1 year ago
You guys are rad. Full stop. This app is going to let me get away from my desk and still be at work. That shit's worth a lot more than $3. You're in the process of saving my life. Thanks. Keep up the good work. Don't let these idiots get you down.
  • stevin3 · 1 year ago
Just thought everybody should know it takes about 5 min to scroll to the bottom pfthis page on an iPhone. Maybe time to make another update and start another page of people complaining about being cheap and impatient
  • MILE · 1 year ago
First of all, you really need some kind of support forum or similar -- browsing through all these comments is more than tedious...!

While I can at least connect to MSN/Windows Live now, I am still unable to connect to .Mac -- I just tried and it says it disconnected me for trying to connect too often...!? WTF?!?
I haven't tried for at least 3 hours, so that "error message" is crap...!

I'm really trying to be patient but it's becoming harder the longer this mess keeps going...! :(
  • stealth · 1 year ago
server issues or not, this program is a pre-beta. There are no features whatsoever. I wish it looked like palringo. I do love the idea that I stay connected, this is why i purchased.
  • AntInNyc · 1 year ago
Oh my god!!! I got it to finally work!!

Well the accounts page was all messed up, and things were disappearing and being really weird. Oh, and I had doubles of some users on my buddy list.

But hey -- I had an actual IM conversation. On my phone! And it was great.

Once all the bugs are worked out, this will indeed be a nice app.
  • Ron · 1 year ago
    AIM?
It's MSN I want and PAID for! Won't even log in. Not slow. It's non functioning!
  • Paul Yorke · 1 year ago
I am giving this app the benefit of the doubt for now as I know it does have potential and could definitely end up being a great app. Things like this are not easy and do take time. But I am very concerned about a few issues. Primarily the fact that it took you guys a while to get this app into the app store and this is the first release with a lot of problems that it appears as though you did not know about until now. Which means of course that you have not yet even begun to work on some of the issues that really need fixes now in order to make this app useable. Unfortunately if we have to wait 2 weeks for a fix, and then another 2+ weeks before the fix is released in the app store, me along with a lot of people here will be long gone.

Btw, just in case anyone is wondering a refund would be issued by apple upon request, any non working apps get refunded pretty quickly. I would personally though rather just have this application working.

Here are some of the issues:

    1. App crashes a lot on launch

    2. Settings are in place, in the settings I do NOT have it set to log me off when I suspend it. When I go into the application EVERY SINGLE time it appears as though it has to re-log me in to the various accounts. I have all together 4 accounts setup and this is not generally a problem for them except 1 which is AIM which then pops me out with a message saying I am logging in too fast and I need to wait 10 minutes. Now my understanding of the application was that the server keeps me logged in, so each and everytime I go into the app it should not be re-logging me in, it should get from your server that I am already connected.

problem is I am infact NOT connected. Testing this verified, after leaving the application, immediately right after (on a desktop client) I go to an away status, then within as little as 5 minutes that desktop then shows me as logged out. If I go back into your application it re-logs me in and then I get a message from AIM saying I am connecting too quickly and I have to wait 10 minutes.

    3. Several of my contacts are only showing email addresses instead of their names. In addition several of them are not showing their picture which they have previously setup, the picture which I can see from any desktop client

    4. when I was first able to connect this morning, I logged in, and it gave me a list of those who were logged in at that time. Between then and now many of them have infact logged off, ALL of them are still showing up as logged in. If I exit the program or even force quit it and then re-enter, they all still show up. When I send them a msg (the logged off clients) nothing happens, no return message to indicate they are logged off, the app just pretends like they got it.

    5. After connecting half of my list of 4 connections disappears. I see nothing but white at the top of my list of connections and then the last two at the bottom. This seems like something you all could have fixed before releasing. simply cosmetic yes, but it is good to know that I am actually connected. For example, when Aim won't connect, since it is at the top of my list, it disappears and then I have no idea if I am connected or not. The only way to tell is to find a contact that is using AIM send them a msg and see if I get an error.

    6. I noticed your answer to a previous post when it wouldnt connect would be to switch it to offline and then back to available. It seems to me this really isnt an acceptable alternative to having it work when it says it is. Specifically when I am supposedly already connected but it is not showing up as such.

All of these issues may be things you are already aware, but I do expect that they be addressed and some way of knowing that they will be worked past. As it stands right now, the application is not useable given the fact that it doesnt work like an IM application should work. I am willing to give it some time, but rest assured if I see no sign of progress or if I dont get a response from you on this, I won't hesistate to leave pretty quickly as soon as the next IM app comes out which actually works.
  • stealth · 1 year ago
how long does it take to get a refund, i used the report a problem option.
  • Joshua · 1 year ago
Yes, anyone gotten a refund before?
    How is it done?
I want my money back if it doesn't work tomorrow.
  • Paul Yorke · 1 year ago
I have gotten refunds so far on 5 applications ranging in price from $.99 to $9.99

The process is actually quite simple. Go into your account in itunes, go into purchase history, find the order which contains the product you want refunded and then next to the product (next to the price) find the link that says "Report a Problem" Click it. It may walk you through a few troubleshooting techniques. But in the end if you go all the way through you end up with a form. Fill out the form, state exactly why you are having problems with the application.

They have ALWAYS responded to me within 24 hours of me submitting the request, and the refund shows up on my credit card within a few days of that. So it is quite quick and quite simple.

Also I wanted to note that there is another way by going through the itunes troubleshooting website, there is a place to contact the itunes store in there. Although in there the options for the problem are more related to music and movies I think I Selected, purchased music doesnt play (or something like that). In this case you still need to have the exact order number that the app was on as well as the exact name of the application as it appears on the order. If you include everything as it should be then you will have your refund as promised with in 3 - 5 days (Their time frame, although I generally see it within the first day or two).

Well, then you're way more patient than I am...! ;)

I'm back to the BeeJive and Meebo web apps for now...until a real working native app comes along...! This is not it, and it won't be for quite some time...! :(
  • lolento · 1 year ago
any one got push notification via email working?

also sending sms to mobile number?

    I cant get neither working...
  • kwjohns · 1 year ago
Email pushing is currently disabled to soften the load on the servers.
  • lolento · 1 year ago
what about messaging to a mobile number?

and where did u find this info?
  • kwjohns · 1 year ago
I don't know. I haven't tried it because I can't log into my AIM account due to "too many tries."

One of the developers mentioned the email pushing situation in the comments of one of the previous updates.

Okay, now I can connect at least to 2 of the 4 services I use regularly so i can at least try the app after more than 24 hours -- only to find myself even more disappointed...! :(((

This app is literally missing a sh*tload of features, which a decent IM app shuld have...! All the hype about how it stays connected and all may be great -- but what about the basics...?! Not only did it freeze the very first time it finally loaded some buddies and chats, but I don't see how I can, for instance; connect to a single service...!? It's always all or none...!? And since it has only connected me to 2 of 4 I actually have to go completely offline and then online again to try to reconnect the other 2 services...?! Unless I'm missing something here this is not the way it should be...

There's no way to set up some privacy options, I can't set buddy names of my own instead of the user id, it doesn't seem to load buddy icons, I can't merge contacts who are on different networks, I can't block or ignore people, I see contacts in the bddy list even when I am offline and, and, and --- the list could go on and on...!

Honestly, this is a huge disappointment as of now...! Even when (or if) they finally manage to get the servers up and running, this is far from a full-featured, commercial app that would deserve to be labeled 3.0 or even 1.0 respectively...! :(((

I don't really care about the 3$ I seem to have wasted, it's just that I was setting my hopes in this and it's a total letdown...
  • stealth · 1 year ago
    I completely agree
  • JesterXR · 1 year ago
I completely agree, and have decided to cut my losses!
  • MILE · 1 year ago
Yeah, as I said, it's not about the money...I'm just really disappointed...! Especially after so many people (over)hyped this app...

And honestly, I won't even bother sending in bug reports, because the problems I was experiencing with MC when it was "running" were so numerous that I just don't have the time and patience for that...! I generally really don't mind helping out and reporting an occasional bug or so, but I sure have better things to do than play the beta-tester for a self-proclaimed 3.0 version of a commercial app...try 0.9 instead and start all over...! :(
  • stealth · 1 year ago
    once again agreed
  • bobby · 1 year ago
Just got Mobile Chat working literally 10 minutes ago and things work good. The text message push service works as well. Takes about 3 or 4 minutes to get the text saying to check your mobile chat for the message but it does work. Things are working good right now but ill post a view later that gives more detail about how things are working so far

This is un-excusable. Ask apple to pull your application if you can't launch it right, How can they still sell a broken application that's been broken since the get-go. Free application? Sure all this downtime is excusable. Now you're saying you're going to start charging for "major updates" yeah right. Look for a charge back on my credit card, and a lengthy complaint to apple to pull your dreadful application. $3 or $15 you can't sell broken shit.
